Wei Ying being a third wheel for 500 words
see notes at the endThe trio left at the crack of dawn, Jiang Cheng leaving a note telling his nephew they'd be gone for a few days and not to follow or he'd break his legs.
The three had chosen not to ride their swords, due to the lack of spiritual energy that Wei Wuxian had and the three rode in uncomfortable silence towards their destination.
ZiHu Sect.
Wei Ying had heard about them once, when Uncle Jiang read them stories about the other sects. ZiHu sect, infamous for it's massacres. There was once a ruler, far from a kind and just man, one who let his rage consume him and slash anyone who stood in his way.
It wasn't long until his own people turned on him, the ruler, angered by the change of heart in his people, ordered for his soldiers to exterminate entire families. Soon, nearly all families were wiped out, their bodies dumped in the lake for the fishes to eat.
Fast forward three years, and the lake had turned a dark purple color covered with moss. Once the ruler died, his son took over and changed the name, erasing almost all records of his father.
Hence, ZiHu, and it's cursed origins.
"Wei Wuxian!"
Wei Ying blinked, pulling himself out of his thoughts and into reality. "I was just thinking about the stories Uncle Jiang told when we were younger," he said, and as soon as the words were out of his mouth he regretted them instantly.
To his surprise, his younger brother nodded slowly, eyes turning wistful and a nostalgic expression plastered on his face.
Wei Ying zoned out again as his brother leaned over to discuss something with Lan Xichen who smiled warmly. It was funny, he thought, how much Lan Zhan and Lan Xichen resembled each other, and how they were almost one. Lan Xichen could still read Lan Zhan better than he could.
They were like sunsets, different colors, different times, different meaning, but still the same structure.
Wei Ying sighed as Little Apple pulled over to the side, hungrily searching for the greenest grass and the sweetest water. He slid off his donkey, stretching his back and motioning for the others to rest up.
The more Wei Ying thought about Lan Zhan, a coil seemed to tighten in his stomach. Writhing and twisting like a snake, it made him uneasy. Lan Zhan was far too capable to be hurt by any monster, but cultivators are not monsters and are twice as strong.
He shivered subconsciously, hoping his partners didn't see, but with his luck, Lan Xichen had seen his movements and a grin stretched his lips.
"Eager? Wei Gong Zi?" He teased. "Don't worry, if we continue along this path. We will arrive approximately a day after Lan Zhan."
Wei Ying nodded, clambering back onto Little Apple rather inelegantly. As long as he could see Lan Zhan, everything would be fine.
