"You should ask him to the dance."
"There's no way I'm asking Michael fucking Clifford to a school dance."
I close the gym locker and tie my laces.
"I'm just saying," Luke says, fixing his hair. "If you can practice in a mirror, you can say it to his face."
"Yeah, well, let's go before she marks us late for not being in our floor spots."
Luke rolls his eyes at the change of subject.
Asking Michael to the school dance? I don't think so. We don't even talk and I'm certain he's not into guys. Well, guys like me that is.
"Hey Ash," I say, sitting in front of the hazel eyed boy.
"Hey guys, found anyone to go to the dance with?"
"Cal's going with Michael." Luke pipes in, in his seat next to me.
"Clifford?"
"No, Luke shut the fuck up."
"Well, it's about time you do. I heard he didn't get asked yet."
"But the dance is like two weeks away?" I say confused.
"I know. Thanks for the reminder, Cal-Pal."
"Alright everyone. You have a choice of either basketball or basketball."
"Geez, I'm having a hard time choosing." Ashton says, getting up.
"Do basketball, I'm doing basketball." Luke says.
"Luke, you can't even throw the ball." I say, laughing when Luke flips me off.
"Shut up Calum, you can't even ask him out."
"Maybe that's because I don't want to ask him out."
"Ask who out?" A voice that's not Luke's asks, but I answer anyway, unaware of who it belonged to.
"Michael Cliff-"
"-Oconda." Luke says cutting me off. "He's a foreign senior, probably don't know him."
"Oh really?" Michael fucking Clifford says. "I'm pretty sure I know a Cliffoconda when I see one."
and no, I think I need glasses because there's no way in hell Michael fucking Clifford winked at me.
Jesus.
"Michael, join our game. It can be a two on two." Ashton bargains, passing the ball to Michael unexpectedly.
Michael's pro, athletic, build, sexy, selfless, cherishable, contagious, look-at-me-I'm-hot self caught the ball. "Nah, maybe next time. Gotta get back to my peeps, oh and if I see this Michael kid I'll be sure to tell him you want to take him to the dance."
"I do not!" I argue, blushing fiercely.
"Are you lying to me, Calum?"
Holy spirit, is that you awakening in these beautiful green eyes?
"No, oh look. Alex is looking impatient."
"No one likes an impatient Alex." Ashton comments and Michael passes the ball back to him.
"You're right. Good subject change. I'll be off now."
Luke walks up to me and stands by my side as I watch Michael retreat to the other side of the gym.
