The clock struck 7:00 in the morning and someone knocked at the newlyweds' door.
Eshaan groaned softly in his sleep. The noise was faint and he wasn't even sure if it was there. Just as he tried to turn to the other side the gentle thud was heard again. He thought of opening his eyes just a crack when he felt something solid but soft covering his eyes. The pressure wasn't uncomfortable and in fact, a welcome weight owning to the horrendous headache he felt. Gradually, he realized that there was a weight pressing down not only on his eyes but the rest of his body as well.
Eshaan's mind is muddled with sleep trying to wake up; while his body felt heavy and sleep paralyzed.
But the heaviness he felt wasn't just his, his blanket was exceptionally heavy as well. As the thought of a blanket crossed his mind, he realized that his hands were hugging the really thick blanket to his body and his forearms thus felt the nip of the cold AC air.
He doesn't want his hands to be cold.
He tried to pull them inside the blanket but the stupid thing wasn't wide enough, he felt lumps and random changes in texture in the blanket. He brought his hands back on top and felt for the hem. His one hand came in contact with a mass of silk threads towards the head, while the hand down south encountered another mound. As his hand came down from the mound, he came in contact with the blanket's hem which he pulled up to his head.
Though he pulled the hem, the heavy "blanket's" weight distribution didn't seem to have changed even in the slightest.
That is strange. His mind wondered.
He again started to explore the surface. Again, he felt a mass of silk threads towards the head, a relatively flat terrain interrupted by a round mound and flat again.
What sort of blanket has such huge lumps?
Eshaan pressed his hand more on the mound to try and flatten it as he moved it back up. unfortunately, the lump doesn't flatten but his hand slips beneath the cotton cover of the blanket as it moves towards the levelled terrain.
Suddenly, while he expected to find cotton and foam filling his hand encountered something solid and smooth, like a fruit skin. This blanket is made with fruits. his mind concluded. He wondered how they managed to level the fruits into something this flat. His hand went back towards the mound. He realized a separate cotton cloth covered the mound. But he had already found the seam to the cover and he was just about to peel it off when the strange blanket slid off him on its own.
His hands which were tangled in the silk threads and beneath the cotton cover got pulled over as well so that he was now lying on top of the blanket.
Uff!!! such a useless and weird blanket.
COMPLETELY STUPID!!!
Eshaan's eyes shot open with a fit of pulsating anger against the "BLANKET".
He raised his head to get a better look at the thing. He realized that the thing had a head.
Like an actual human head.
"what the hell?!" Eshaan exclaims, just as the knocks on the door become more frantic.
"bhaiya open the door!", he hears Mishka's voice calling out to him.
Rubbing his eyes, still half asleep, he makes his way on wobbly steps towards the door.
Eshaan opened the door to find Mishka grinning naughtily.
"what is it Mishka? Why are you bothering me early in the morning" Eshaan yawned.
"I am here to wake you guys, of course. You should thank me that I took up this task or mom or dadi would have come to wake you up. Don't you remember we all need to visit Kul devi's temple today to celebrate your marriage and do pooja?
