2. The bizarre wish of the silent boy

Rukmini Devi sat cursing her rotten luck. While Ranjana could still not get over the shock that Eshaan their Eshaan could choose someone like Meera as his bride.

Eshaan Poddar had turned 26 a few months back, he had yet again failed to secure an appraisal that would have increased his salary of 4.2 lacs to 4.9 lacs per annum package. Not that it was too great an amount but it was now clear that there was no point in waiting for his appraisal and they should start looking for girls for him and get him married by this year-end.

No sooner had they thought of it, that 6 very imminent proposals had come.

1. Veena Pukhraj: 22 year old recent B.Sc. graduate. She is the grand-daughter of Mahesh Pukhraj and Ahilya Pukhraj. Ahilya Pukhraj is Rukmini Devi's distant cousin and childhood friend from her hometown Besa. The girl Veena had no big ambitions of pursuing a job after marriage, she was very much proficient in the household chores and was actually willing to get married at the earliest and start a family.

she was Rukmini's favourite option of all. She could not think of a better match for her ever silent grandson Eshaan.

2. Mohini Daga: 25 year old fashion designer. She is the co-owner of Rang Ruhani fashion house. her father Mr Aakash Daga is a distinguished design and art professor at the national fashion institute. Her mother Avnit Daga is a Punjabi turned Marwari socialite. She is a homemaker and an active member of the Marwari samaj in Bangalore, the one the Poddars are an active member of as well. the fashion house is a pretty profitable business, and the girl will be continuing to work at the place part time. the best thing is that the entire earnings shall be invested in the house Mohini is married into.

The fact that Mohini brought in an additional steady flow of income without compromising on family time made her the second best option after Veena for Rukmini Devi. The family was good as well, though she did have some problem with the boisterous Punjabi traits of Avnit, but she hopes that the girl Mohini will be more Marwari than her mother.

3. Aditi Agrawal: 26 year old MBA. She is currently working with South Indian bank as the risk analysis officer. The girl and her family have been neighbours of Poddars for past 15 years. Eshaan and Aditi practically grew up together.

Both Rukmini and Ranjana are not comfortable with this alliance. They feel that after marriage, the bride's parents would be staying too close for comfort and it might lead to meddlesome behaviour on Agrawals' part. Also, the girl was adamant about pursuing a career after marriage and that too in a field that involved transferable jobs. But they held their tongue. It would need serious tact to reject this proposal and what if Eshaan was interested in Aditi.

4. Hanita Airan: 21-year-old heiress of Airan jewellers.

The girl was a bit young for Eshaan. Ranjana knew for sure that Eshaan would not prefer a girl this young. Though if financial status and society were considered this was a highly profitable alliance, the Airans were filthy rich and very influential. Rukmini Devi though felt differently about this proposal. She didn't like the fact that the bride's family holds more power than them in society as she feels that after marriage this would adversely affect their influence and power dynamics. Rukmini Devi for one didn't prefer to be below in any aspect to a daughter-in-law or her family.

5. Maansi Naagal: 26-year-old high school English teacher. Comes from a good family. father is a government servant and mother is a retired school principal. The girl is fair-skinned with beautiful features.

Neither Rukmini Devi nor Ranjana had any strong opinion on this girl. If Eshaan likes her, they would further the conversation and give consent to the marriage.
