~I added my character inspiration for Thorn above. Enjoy!~

Right before I heard the cop come over, I felt Malaya stir. I let out a sigh of relief. For a second there I thought my sister was dead because she was so still. The cop came over and questioned me about what happened while taking Malaya out of my arms so that the paramedics could lay her on the stretcher. Quickly wrapping up Malaya's head to stop the bleeding, the paramedics lifted her stretcher into the back of their truck and closed the doors. I watched as they drove off, as the cop prattled on."Son? Hey, you listening? Can you tell me exactly what happened?"
"I'm not sure exactly what happened; I was getting the laptop out of the backseat. I do know that the car started spinning then hit the railing and flipped. I pulled Malaya out of her seat, then dragged her out the door to wait on ya'll." It was probably best not to tell him that I did not have a seat belt on. I did not need anything else; it was bad enough that Malaya may have brain damage or a concussion.
"Would you happen to know exactly what caused the wreck then?" The cop looked up from his note pad, waiting on my reply as if I had any clue. "Look kid, I'm not trying to say that you are at fault. I just need to know everything that happened. From what I can see so far, there are no signs of another vehicle being involved, but there are skid marks and obvious damage to the railing and the car. If you don't give me anymore information I am going to has to assume that your sister was driving recklessly and lost control."
"I already told you everything I know, dude. I was in the backseat. I didn't see what hit us." I allowed some of my aggravation to show. All I wanted to do was get to the hospital and make sure my sister was okay.
"Okay." The cop flipped his pad closed and placed it in his pocket. "If there is anything in the car you need you will have to get it from the impound after the car has been processed, and we will be contacting your insurance about the wreck. Since the paramedics already left, I will give you a ride to the hospital and make sure that any immediate family is contacted. Go ahead and climb in."
Opening the back door to his car, the cop waited for me to get in before going to his seat. The ride was mostly quiet, except the chatter over the radio. I tuned it out, and stared out the window; watching the lights from homes and businesses pass by as we got closer to the hospital.
"What's your parents' names and numbers, kid?" stepping out of the car, I looked around to find the emergency entrance and stared heading that way.
"My parents are dead. We live with our Grandmother." I quickly gave the officer her information as we walked into the hospital. Quickly approaching the front desk, I asked where I could find my sister but was told to take a seat until further information was available.
After speaking with the receptionist, the cop sat beside me and said, " She is currently in surgery. So far she has a really good chance of recovery with a few broken bones, but the injury to her head is extensive. Doctors won't know more until the swelling goes down, but they will let you back as soon as she is stable. I'm going to go contact your grandmother now."
