Would you like to talk a little with me?

Quickly, so quickly to seem like a race, Brian and I reach the Empress' walk again. The fresh sea breeze and the sound of the waves that crashing on the coastline return to fill my eyes, my ears, my heart. Unlike a quarter of an hour ago, when it was inhabited just by Umberto Brian and me, now the promenade is a bit more crowded. There are some couples walking hand in hand and a big group of ladies and middle-aged gentlemen who chatting aloud, probably they just left one of the restaurants overlooking the sea.

I leave Brian's hand as soon as we reach a bench apart from the others and far from the street lamps.

"We can ... we can sit here if you want. You cannot see the sea, but nobody will see you here" I propose him, pointing him the bench I've choosen.
"Yes, sure. Here will be fine" Brian agrees and gestures me to take a seat before he does.

I sit down and Brian sits down next to me.

"Can you tell me now why we rushed to come here?" he asks me.
"Yes, you're right I'm sorry, but ... but a group of guys recognized you and so..." I stop and look at him, I hope he understands that I did it for him.

Brian stares at me for a few seconds before he whispers to me: "Oh...well...thanks Lilibeth" and he smiles at me.

He has understood everything, as always.

"I think ... I think it's better to eat before our dinner gets cold" I change the subject.
"Yes, you're right, I'm... I'm really hungry"

I unwrap the first packet and I lower my head slightly to see what's inside: "This is your farinata" and I give Brian his dinner.

"Thank you" he says "Would you have a tissue? You know, I don't want to get my hands dirty"
"Oh" I exclaim a little stunned, I think my idea of eating on the street doesn't match to his "Yes, I have it. I always have a package of them in my bag"

I open my shoulder bag, take out the package and I take out a tissue for Brian. He thanks me with a slight nod, unfolds it, wraps it around the slice of farinata and he crumples the sheet of yellow paper "This is a little too greasy to be used again" he murmurs to himself, stands up and throw it in the trash not far from us.

Stunned by such accuracy, for a few seconds I think about how I can eat my slice of focaccia without looking like a crude antediluvian woman. When I eat on the street I generally don't follow the bon-ton rules and I've never wrapped the slice of any food in a tissue before eating it, I directly use the greased paper in which it was wrapped.

"But it's different this time, Lilibeth" I think to myself.

I unwrap my piece of focaccia and breathe deeply the delicious, warm scent of stracchino. I take another tissue from the package, unfold it and I wrap my slice of focaccia in it, reluctantly because now I'll be forced to throw away the paper that wrapped it. It's greasy, yes, it's dirty, but some pieces of stracchino fell off the filling and I could have eaten them in the end. It's not right!

"Is anything wrong, Lilibeth?" Brian asks staring at me, he's politely waiting for me to start eating.
"Oh no, no Brian, it's everything ok. I throw this dirty paper away and...and we can start to eat"

I get up from the bench and reach the trash: "Goodbye my dear" I whisper sadly, seeing the yellow paper falls in the trash vortex with all my pieces of cheese.

I go back to my seat and I see Brian stares me. Maybe he did it all the time I was busy regretting my paper dirty with oil and stracchino and I didn't notice it.

"Enjoy your food" I say "And sorry if I kept you wait for me to..."
"Don't worry, it's not a problem. Enjoy your food you too"

Brian bites a piece of farinata and chews it for a few seconds with a thoughtful and concentrated gaze, but when he swallows the bite a smile of happiness mixed with satisfaction appears on his face.
