"Lilibeth!" I exclaim softly and she immediately comes into the room "Lilibeth...I thought you..."
"Shhh..." she whispers sweetly, placing her finger on my lips "Don't say anything else or I could change my mind"I close the door, I feel so confused that I don't understand if I'm dreaming or if Lilibeth is really here with me. She looks around and quickly reaches the nightstand, she places the keys on it and I reach her.
"What were you doing?" she asks me, her gaze is so sensual, so bewitching that I don't know if I will be able to put on a reasonable sentence.
"I was... I was packing my suitcase" I answer and I point out the suitcase open on one of the armchairs at the foot of the bed "Tomorrow we come back to London and ..."
"I know it" she interrupts me "That's why I've came, because tomorrow morning you leave"
"And what about you? Shouldn't you be at the party?"
"I went to the party, but...but I missed you"Lilibeth slowly lifts up her right hand and caresses my face. I close my eyes, unable to react. How is it possible? It's since I saw her the for the first time I want her and now that she's here with me I don't have the courage to touch her. It always happens to me, every time I'm one step away from getting what I have fought for, I'm intimidated, I don't know what to do. Well, actually I would know very well what to do, I have been dreaming about making love with her for two nights, about gently laying her on my bed and filling her with kisses. But now that all this could really happen, I'm afraid, I'm really afraid, but it's a beautiful, wonderful afraid, wonderful fear like her.
"Were you listening to something?" she asks me.
I open my eyes, she's staring at me while her fingers still caress my cheek.
"I...yes... I was going to do it" I stammer.
"Well, then do it" she replies "Do it Brian"
"Ok"Her hand fall down slowly and leaves my face, I bow my head and reach the desk where the rod of the record player is still lifted up. I grab it and lower it slowly, the needle touches the vinyl and a rustling that smells of the ancient things floods the room. Summertime is always a gorgeous song. I close my eyes for a few moments, lulled by this magic that makes me dream every time. The perfect sound of Armstrong's trumpet fills every corner of the room.
I turn and I see that Lilibeth has sat in the center of the bed, among the white and messy sheets, they're wrinkled, they're jagged like waves, like the sea foam from which Venus was born and now she appears to me as Venus, Lilibeth is beautiful and perfect.Lilibeth appears me in dim light, but I can see her clearly observing me, maybe she has not stopped looking at me. She's beautiful, the cloud of her brown hair places on her shoulders softly, her lips are half-closed, the brace of her nightgown has tumbled down to her elbow, the lace delicately wraps her soft skin. I reach her at a slow pace, as slow as the jazzy rhythm of the brushes that fall on the drums delicately. She follows me with her eyes and she sighs when I sit on the bed next to her, I'm so close to her now that I can feel her breathing caress my face. A few seconds of hesitant silence between us and then...
Summertime, and the livin' is easy
"Lilibeth, I...I thought that you..." I whisper.
"You really want to talk about it" she replies "But why?"
"Because I thought we would never see each other again, we won't..."
"I can't always have regrets in life, Brian. I can't always cry my loneliness, I can't...or at least I don't want it tonight"Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
"Maybe you were right, Lilibeth, we shouldn't have allowed it, we should have..."
"No" she stops me and her big dark eyes stare at mine like never before.Oh, your daddy's rich and your ma is good-lookin'
"Brian" she whispers "You can't stop a...a feeling. You don't know how much I fought with myself in these days to...to prevent me from feeling this attraction for you, but ..."
"I know and I tried it too, but..." I hesitate, I don't know how long I'll still be able to hide the truth from her.
