Five years had passed and James was ready to start school. This would be the first time that he spent more than 3 hours without either parent in a new environment and Abby and William were worried if he was going to be okay. When they dropped him off at his school, they thought he might start crying but he seemed fine and seemed to make a friend right away. They were relieved he was okay and glad he was already making friends.

Abby and William were kind and loving parents. They always encouraged James to do anything he wanted. They put him in all and every extracurricular activity he wanted to do. As James grew, he started to get into trouble more often. He got into a fight with a student at school, so instead of punishing him too harshly, they talked to him and reasoned with him. They gave him options and told him why it was wrong to do what he did. They also always gave him hugs and kisses, while also making sure that if he did anything wrong there'd be reasonable consequences. Since they had an authoritative parenting style James grew up a kind and caring boy. He knew what was wrong and what was right. He was confidant with making decisions.

Both Abby and William worked, but they made sure to take turns coming home early so they could take care of James. One day Abby would come home at 3, and pick James up from school, and William would make sure to be home for dinner. The next day William would pick James up from school and go home, where they hung out and waited for Abby to come home in time for diner. James would get homework help from both his parents and he'd help both his parents make dinner. Abby and William, also made sure to have one day off together so they could do something fun together.

One day when they were at a check up for James, the doctor asked Abby and William if any of their family members had cancer. They both responded with yes, which worried the doctor. She decided that it would be best to get James tested incase he had anything. Abby and William didn't think anything of it since neither of them had cancer, but surprisingly, James was diagnosed with cancer. This too everyone by surprise and they were devastated. Abby and William were so worried about their child and didn't know what would happen to him. They started to worry about whether they would lose him too. Abby went into a state of shock and William had to push her to act normal around James. William was also worried about James, but he knew that they needed to move forward. After discussing it with his doctor, they decided it was best for him to go through chemotherapy.

Abby and William decided it was time to tell James what was happening

Abby and William decided it was time to tell James what was happening. They explained everything that was happening to him in a careful and considerate way. They told him that everything will be okay and that they would be there with him the whole time and wouldn't let anything happen to him. He seemed to understand what was happening and was okay with going through the procedure. They started as soon as possible and the doctor said that everything was going well. After four months, the doctor said that he was free of cancer. Abby and William were overjoyed. They were so happy to have their son be okay and were ready to take him home to celebrate. They were still worried if it would ever come back but for now they were going to celebrate the health of their child returning to normal.
