Mom rubs my arms, looking at my reflection in the mirror. "You look breathtaking, darling."
I tilt my head, a smile spreading across my face. I'm wearing a dark blue dress that flows down to just below my knees, with a 'v' neckline and matching blue belt. I also am wearing one inch blue heels; so I won't kill my feet. Mom not only did my makeup, but she also French braided my hair, along with giving me a hair clip that used to be Grandma's. It is perfect for my outfit.
I turn my head to her, kissing her cheek. "Thanks for everything, Mom."
She smiles at me, nodding towards the door. "Let's go show the boys. Your dad and I want to take pictures before you go."
I groan. "Only take a couple. I want to actually leave the house at some point tonight."
Mom places her hand over her heart. "I promise we won't take too many pictures. Now come on."
Mom opens the door to the bathroom and ushers me out. Waiting in the living room is Stevie and Dad, who both have the widest smiles on their faces as they take in my finished look.
"You look great, Livy." My brother tells me, not an ounce of sarcasm in his voice.
Dad approaches me and brushes my cheek. "You look beautiful, honey. You sure you don't want me to call Sharon to drive you?"
I shake my head. "No I'll fly there. But don't worry, I'll shift back far enough away so people don't see me."
Dad leans forward and placed a kiss on my forehead, nodding his head to me. "Go have fun. But I want you back home by midnight."
I nod back, looking back at Mom. "Alright, lets get the pictures out of the way."
A gleam of mischief comes into her eyes. I roll my own, knowing I won't make it to the dance for at least another half an hour while my parents take pictures.

I straighten my dress out and compose myself before walking back towards the school. Thankfully no one saw me, but I nearly flew into a tree which wasn't very pleasant. I'm lucky my hair didn't get messed up.
I see everyone making their way towards the side entrance of the school where the gym is. I follow the other students towards that door, feeling rather awkward walking by myself. I don't have a date to this dance, which I am totally fine with. But since everyone else does it feels rather uncomfortable having no one to talk to. I'm not exactly a social person in school. I don't have any friends and I certainly haven't dated anyone here. One of the basketball players asked me out last year on a dare, but I immediately turned him down. I didn't want someone to want me because of a game they're having with their friends.
When I make it through the doors of the school I see that there are gold and white balloons strung around. Streamers and glitter line the halls as well, with posters for the dance posted on the walls every few feet. The theme is masquerade this year, so everyone is wearing these really beautiful masks. Aunt Nakia helped me make mine to match my dress. It's blue with sequins lining the eyes. I slip mine on just before I make it into the gym where the prom itself is being held.
