Defense Against the Dark Arts is now my favorite class. We learn about the most interesting creatures and I get much more out of it now than I did in my first and second years combined. Divination is going good to, and I'm doing really well in that class. I'm right most of the time in my predictions, although I don't see Harry's death as often as Trelawney does. I'm also on less-than-good-terms with Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil because I'm doing so well and Trelawney thinks I could be a Seer. Care of Magical Creatures is another matter. Don't get me wrong, I'm still doing good, it's just so dull. I've read about so many interesting creatures in the books. Sphinxes - creatures that give out riddles and if you don't solve them correctly they kill you - manticores - a dangerous creature that is a hybrid of other creatures - and so many other dangerous and interesting creatures. Are we dealing with any of those? No. Of course not. We're dealing with flobberworms, which are dishwater dull. All they are are short, brown, toothless creatures that eat things that are green and leafy. At the end of September, though, I get a letter from my mother that brightens my mood tenfold.
Dear Chloe,
I'll start off with the not-so-fun stuff first. That howler... wow. I don't think it had all of the effects you were hoping for - with Edward at least - but Alice changed a little bit after you sent the letter. She was lest hostile where the baby is concerned - she tried to be. She wasn't happy at the prospect of never talking to you again if she didn't act civil toward the child in your eyes. You didn't have much of an effect on Edward though, I'm afraid. With how weak Bella was, I didn't think anything could have changed how he felt. He was depressed and almost emotionless.
Now for the happy stuff. Bella had her baby and Bella's alive! The baby is a girl and she's named Renesmee Carlie Cullen (it's pronounced Ruh-nez-mee). She is so cute. She has Bella's curly hair, but it's the same color as Edward's, and her eyes are brown, like Bella's. Her skin is a creamy ivory with a rosy tint. Her skin is almost as tough as ours, and she's strong. She likes to bend silverware for fun. She's still growing at an alarmingly fast rate. She was born on September 11th and she can already walk and talk. She prefers not to talk though because she has a gift that she feels reflects her feelings better. When she has physical contact with people, she can show you what she's thinking.
Another thing about Renesmee. Jacob - one of the shape-shifters from La Push - imprinted on her. I know you know what imprinting means, so I won't bother to recap that. At first, Bella was pissed, but she doesn't mind anymore. Edward still isn't fond of it. I know that Renesmee is really fond of Jacob and he makes her happy, but the mutt never leaves! He is always here. He even sleeps here sometimes. We are never going to be able to get the wet dog smell out of the house. I have forbidden him from going in your room, though, so that room is wet dog free. Sometimes I go in there for your scent to dilute his.
Last thing I need to update you on is Bella. She's a vampire now, although she doesn't act like a newborn. She has some sort of super self-control. Human blood doesn't bother her like other newborns, and she can even be around Charlie and not be bothered. She's really happy and everything is going really well. We all miss you and we'll see you at Christmas!
Love,
Mom and Dad
When October rolls around, I have something else to occupy me. Quidditch. During our first meeting of the season, Oliver Wood gives us a pep talk. "This is our last chance - my last chance - to win the Quidditch Cup. I'll be leaving at the end of this year. I'll never get another shot at it. Gryffindor hasn't won for seven years now. Okay, so we've had the worst luck in the world - injuries - then the tournament getting called off last year..." Wood has to take a minute to recover himself. "But we also know we've got the best - ruddy - team - in - the - school. We've got three superb Chasers. We've got two unbeatable Beaters, and we've got a Seeker who has never failed to win us a match! And me," he adds at the end. "We think you're very good too, Oliver," says George. "Spanking good Keeper," says Fred. "The point is, the Quidditch Cup should have had our name on it these last two years. Ever since Harry and Chloe joined the team, I've thought the thing was in the bag. But we haven't got it, and this year's the last chance we'll get to finally see our name on the thing..." "Oliver, this year's our year," says Fred. "We'll do it Oliver!" says Angelina, a fellow Chaser. "Definitely," says Harry.
