It was a dark night, as human Darla walked from out behind a pillar, walking towards where Angel stood.

"What are you doing here?" he asked her.

She looked up at him with a hand on the right side of his face. Then, in so many words, she explained to him that she was dying from syphilis, just as she had been before The Master had turned her.

She smiled.

"My Angel." She took her hand away from his face. "I need you to turn me."

"No," he replied, not wanting to have her soul taken away, afraid she would become a ruthless monster, just as she used to be.

"I'm dying. Please, Angel. I don't want to die," she begged him.

"I won't destroy your soul," he replied.

The next night, he went through trials, through talking with a demon, in order to save her life, without turning her into a vampire.

In the end, before he could stop her, Wolfram and Heart brought in Dru, who turned Darla.
