The noise of the vacuum has stopped. Kyle looks up at the ceiling and starts stretching out, and then realizes he is finally in a body.
He feels the soft fuzziness of Cole’s blanket and can’t believe he has missed out on how soft things could be.
He opened the curtain and looked down the road and realized he hasn’t even seen a car before and couldn’t believe he is finally getting to experience this stuff.
No sooner does Kyle start feeling all these new ways he starts realizing that he can’t be acting like that… Cole has seen these things… “I can’t over react to things I have already supposed to have seen before.”
“Cole!?”, from the distance dad calls out. He sounds upset… confused… what exactly did he put in that note? “Cole? Come here really quick please, I need to speak to you.”
Kyle walks downstairs to meet his dad, “Dad?”
Father looks up, a grown man instantly in tears… rushes over to Kyle and embraces him with every ounce of love he has held in for him… had only been able to pour on his only living son. “Kyle, I can’t believe it’s actually you!?” Sniffling, father tries to endlessly wipe away the tears but fails miserably.
Kyle is surprised that he can tell the difference between them somehow, they are identical… He tried to play it off,” Dad, who is Kyle? You have never told me about a Kyle before, you’re beginning to confuse me.”
Snickering now, dad jokingly said, “Oh you little bugger fucker, you’re such a clown just like your mom used to be… stay right there… I’ll be back."
Dad came back with a mirror, Kyle’s jaw dropped. There in the mirror stood Cole, but with Kyle’s birthmark looking back at him. “How the hell did Cole do this?” he thought to himself.
Dad handed Kyle a folded-up piece of paper. Kyle knew what it was… He began to read it…
Dad,
Hopefully you see this as you wake up because I have a special surprise for you waiting downstairs. If you can’t find it when you get down there in the morning… call me down and you will see what I have hidden.
Love Always,
Cole
P.S. “MTA”Kyle reread it over and over, still not understanding why this was so important then noticed the MTA at the bottom… why would he jeopardize the after life by putting something like that on a document like what the fuck Cole…
Dad embraced Kyle again, “I have known about the afterlife for quite some time Kyle. I myself have traveled there. I too had lost my twin brother when we were born, neither of you boys ever knew… and the only one that ever even knew that I had traveled there is your mother. So, I see she can still keep a secret. She still have her great sense of humor and great ass?”
“Dad… really? I am not going to say that my mother has a nice butt… that’s just weird. “Butt” ha-ha, as for her sense of humor… yes, she is the funniest person I know dad.”
“Oh I can see you have inherited her “punny” ways,” as he bellows out in laughter thinking that what he said was the funniest shit ever, that’s a true dad for you. “But after losing you and your mother that day… I remember my brother used to come to me in dreams when I was younger and gave me a trinket… he said if I ever wanted to see him all I needed to do was have it in the room I slept in and he would show himself in my dreams… I had it downstairs, but I can tell you right now Cole had to of taken it… Once a person that receives such an item, it is passed on to one of their children as soon they turn 13… and the trinket changes its bond to the closest person that has died to that child. Since you two are twins, nothing beats that that kind of bond. But enough about all of this nonsense, you’re here now and probably for just a few short days. So since yesterday was you guys’ birthday, it seems only fair to throw you one as well.”
Kyle couldn’t grasp how calm his father was being right now, knowing fully dam well his dead son that never made it out of infancy is now standing before him the size of a 17-year-old. But he decided he was just going to embrace it, and it made him happy as hell.
Dad and Kyle spent the whole day talking about mom, listening to music out by the bonfire. Kyle telling some of mom’s favorite jokes and lighting up dads face like the fourth of July. Rehearing them gave dad such a youthful feeling since he had gone so long not remembering any of her jokes let alone hearing one.
But as the night went one, so did their bond. The laughter and music… the celebration of Kyles 17th birthday. Which was his first birthday celebration ever since the MTA finds them distracting.
All of his 1sts were always with his mother… but now he can finally say he got to share that feeling with the father he has always had as well. Sharing their own memories of mom to each other and enjoying music by the bonfire.
