Hyejin walks out of the school gates, pulling on the straps of her backpack.
She looks at her shoes as she walks down the steps and out to the bustling courtyard.
The same sounds as this morning filled her ears; students chattering, sneakers stepping on the concrete, books and papers dropping...
She was forced out of her train of thought when she felt a hand landing on her shoulder.
"Oh Daejung...what's up?" Hyejin looked up with a bright smile on her face.
"Your brother told me to take you home" he beamed back at her.
"Huh? Why? Dude! Did he get detention?" she backed away, a shocked expression forming on her face.
"Nah...he's a good kid. He just wants to hang out with the guys"
"Oh....you're not going with them?"
"Me? No. I busy after school"
Hyejin nodded slowly while kicking the rocks in front of her.
The two were already a few blocks away from the school gates but they didn't seem to notice it.
"Are you part of any clubs at school?" Hyejin suddenly piped up.
Daejung moved his gaze towards her,"I do soccer...I'm the team captain ,in fact" he said after a long pause.
"What about you? Do you do any sports?" he asked.
"Sports? No. I used to do basketball but I'm shit at it now" she chuckled back.
"We should play a game together sometime! I really wanna try and pick up basketball"
Hyejin came to a halt once they arrived at the steps on her porch.
"Is this it?" Daejung asked while pointing to the wooden door.
She nodded her head and watched him walk into the distance, slowly becoming a small dot.
Once his figure disappeared, she slid the door open and stepped inside.
"I'm home!"
Hyejin rubbed both her feet on the rug before slipping her shoes off.
She took of her coat, letting a soft sigh go through her mouth.
Hearing the girl's greeting Seyoung shouted back,"Oh you're back! Where's your brother?".
"He's out with some friends today" she replied, setting herself on the couch.
Seyoung walked down the stairs and grabbed the remote.
She turned on the TV, setting it to Netflix and turned to Hyejin.
"Why aren't you out with friends?"
Hyejin shrugged,"I prefer staying home".
She grabbed the remote out of her aunt's hand and surfed through the app.
"Wanna watch a movie?" she suggested.
Her aunt nodded and stood up.
"I'll make some popcorn"
Hyejin continued to surf through the possibilities, this time filtering it with only movies.
"Aunt Seyoung!" she yelled, turning around.
"Hm?" Seyoung hummed back.
"Wanna watch Cherry Bomb? It's something old! But my friend said it was good!"
Seyoung dawdled back to the couch with a bowl of popcorn in hand,"Oh, sure. That's fine".
Hyejin turned on the movie before standing up to turn the lights off.
She came back to the couch and sat cross-legged, hugging a pillow.
In the middle of the movie, the two heard a slight creak of the door which made them both snap their heads to the source of the sound.
They turned to the door only to see Jowoon taking his coat off.
"I'm home" he said to the two of them.
He smiled and plopped down beside Hyejin on the couch.
While Jowoon was saying his greeting, Seyoung paused the movie so they wouldn't miss anything while talking to him.
"What were you watching?" he asked.
"Cherry Bomb. Old movie. Found it on Netflix and it seemed interesting" Hyejin replied blandly before resuming the movie.
"Geez..." Jowoon mumbled quietly.
Either way, he watched the whole movie with them until Seyoung decided it was time for dinner.
She didn't feel like cooking tonight so she decided to just buy some Chinese food from down the street.
"Bye, kids! I'll be back in a minute. Don't get into any trouble, okay?" she said, wrapping a scarf around her neck.
The twins nodded and gave their aunt one last smile before she closed the door.
"Oh, sis" Jowoon piped.
Hyejin hummed in response, urging her brother to go on.
"Sorry I couldn't walk you home today. How was Daejung hyung, though? Was he good? He didn't hurt you right?"
"He was nice! And he didn't hurt me Jo, why would he do that?" she smiled and giggled as she replied to him.
Jowoon sighed in relief. He knew this was a bit much. But he genuinely just wanted to fulfill his mother's wish.
She wished for him to keep Hyejin safe. And he would do just that.
He was so grateful to have his mother and would do anything for her to be with them right now.
But he couldn't.
No matter what he does, his mother can't be here. Not now.
So he wanted to be her spirit here. He wanted to be overly protective over his sister. Because that was his mom's wish.
He smiled at the thought of her.
"Good" he replied.
"Guys! Food's here!" Seyoung shouted.
The two dashed to the dining table at their aunt's words.
"I just got some fried rice and noodles. Is that fine?" Seyoung asked before joining the two at the table.
"Yeah! That's great! Thank you" Jowoon said before gobbling up a few bites of the rice.
Hyejin slurped the noodles through her mouth, which made sauce go on her mouth.
Jowoon laughed hysterically.
"Dude, you have sauce all over your face! Saucy-head!" He mocked, pointing a finger at her.
Hyejin dipped her finger in the noodles, getting a dollop of sauce on it.
She smirked before flicking her finger towards Jowoon, making it splatter all over his face.
"Who's saucy-head now, huh?" She exclaimed, wiping her mouth with a tissue.
Jowoon scoffed before cleaning up his face as well.
Seyoung sniggered at the twins' antics.
"It honestly can never get boring with you two, can it?"
