It's been several weeks since the incident happened. Starr still refuses to go back to school, because she doesn't want to leave my side. Today I'm going to the principal. Not just about her grades, but maybe some therapy.
I go to her room to wake her for school. This should be interesting.
"Starr.. it's time to get up. You're going today."
I shake her gently enough to get her attention. But she's still not wanting to go."But.. I don't wanna... I wanna be with you.."
"I know baby girl. But you need to go to school. Or daddy will get in a lot of trouble."
"No!"
She flung herself on me. I didn't mean to scare her but I guess it got her out of bed. I picked her her up and carried her to her bathroom, which needless to say is bright fairy pink. Grabbed fresh clothes and underwear and left her to change. Lynda's been a big help with her since she is another woman. Especially at bedtime. I dread the day she grows out of this phase.
She opened the door completely dressed, now all she needs is shoes and socks. Which is on her bed, ready to go. She slowly, so slowly, put them on.
"I know you're scared, but your friends will be there."
"I don't have friends.. no one likes me."
Not this again. "Everyone has at least one friend."
"Leave me alone. I don't have any stupid friends."
"Woah miss attitude. You can drop that at any time."
"Shut up. You don't even care."
"I do care. And tell me to shut up again and you're grounded from the computer. Got it?"
Where's this sudden change coming from? She was so sweet 10 minutes ago. But by this time we where in the car.
"Shut. Up."
"Okay, you're gonna tell me what's bothering you. Like, now. And you're grounded from the computer. For a week."
"I don't have to tell you anything!"
What the actual fuck? Why is she acting like this? I slam on the breaks causing her to jolt forward in her seat. But her seatbelt caught her.
I turn half of my body to her. "I don't know what's gotten into you, but when you get home, you're going to change that attitude! I won't tolerate it from my only child!"
Raising my voice made her cower in her seat. She knew she was in trouble. The rest of the ride to school was quiet. I've never been that angry with her. I park in a spot at the school she goes to and waits as she gets out. She's in middle school and looking at some of the other kids reminds me of my own days back in school.
I could easily pick out which group was the "poplar" ones. Sad. We make our way to the principal's office and she practically uses me as a human shield. I've never seen this side of her.
"The weirdo's back! And it has a bodyguard!"
One of the kids yelled. Uncalled for. Teens are ruthless, I get it.
"It can't even talk! No wonder it should've stayed in its box!" Someone else yelled. Is this what she goes through? I can feel her grip on my arm tighten. We make it to the principal's office with no other incidents.
