Chapter 28

It was late in the afternoon before I saw him. He's only 16, and he wants to commit suicide because the voice told him to.

"Dr. Purdy. Long time no see."

"Marcus. I wish we could meet under better circumstances."

"I heard your girlfriend tried to kill you. Is it true?"

"You're not here to talk about me. So, how're things at school?"

"Same shitty scene. And to answer your next question, shitty ass home life."

I could sense someone staring, I ignored it for now. "Alright. Since you already answered my second question, let's get gritty. Is the medication I prescribed working?"

"I wouldn't know. My ass of a dad sold it for money."

"Well I'll tell you what, I'll prescribe new medication, and put it in a special box that only you can open."

"He'll still figure out how to open it."

I pulled out a small box, big enough for one prescription bottle. With a special combination lock.

"This will keep him out of it. There's a special word to unlock it. I suggest changing it once a week to keep him in the dark."

"That's kinda cool. But why is your dad stalking us?"

"He's just being overprotective. Do you know his music?"

"Yeah.. I was a huge fan of his old band before they broke up."

"Wanna meet him? He's a total teddy bear."

His eyes lit up so bright you could light up a room. "That'd be so cool.. But I don't wanna fuck up.."

I was already dragging him over before he could finish his sentence.

"Starr I'm still in this stupid gown."

"Oh shut it drama queen. And meet Marcus."

Marcus was so star struck it was adorable. I've never seen him this happy since I met him.

"This is an honor.. I'm such a huge fan Mr. Purdy.. I can't believe this is real.."

"It's real. Did I cross off a number on your bucket list?"

"What's that?"

"Alright, old man, you shouldn't even be out of bed. Go before I call Danielle."

"You wouldn't dare. She's too loud."

I had my phone with her number pulled up. "Try me. I'll have the nurse tie you down."

"Fine. I'm going. Nice meeting you Marcus."

"Is he always like that?"

"It's like watching an extra child sometimes."

"I might be old, but I can still hear!"

"Get back in bed! Don't make me drag you myself!" Damn he's stubborn. He was inside the main doors.

"Wow.. He's so down to earth."

"Or he's just stubborn. Anyway, this will keep your dad out of your medication. I won't prescribe no more than one at a time. I'll make a call to my office to set up your prescription. If anything else bothers you, or if you feel like another personality is too strong, call me. And I'll talk you through it."

"We could barely afford the first one..."

"Don't worry about it. I've got it covered. It'll be a few weeks before I'm medically cleared to come back to work. So if you need to talk to someone, my other colleagues will be more than happy to help."
