A lot of time passes and the party is almost at its end. Before we're all dragged in to help clean up, Caleb, Joey, Lassie, Lucas, myself and Lucas' friends, Randy and Oliver, are standing in front of three cars parked across the street under a flickering street lamp. Most of us are wobbling to prove their drunken state, minus myself, Lucas, and Lassie who are completely sober. You can't blame them though, most people come to parties to get drunk and have the night of their life. In this case I didn't even sip a drink, and I have a small headache from the pounding music and from my inevitable dehydration. It's my fault but I'll be home soon anyway.
"What are we going to do about the rides? I remember Lucas suggesting taking us home but I don't think that would work now." I ponder, my eyes wondering over each head before landing on both Lassie and Lucas.
This is going to be a huge struggle if I've ever seen one.
"I'm going to drop my mates off at our house and I'll be at your house straight after. I'll be making sure they don't choke on their own vomit before I go anywhere. Maybe Lassie can take you, Caleb and Joey home? We'll just leave Caleb's car here and pick it up tomorrow." Lucas suggests, a clear mind in this confusing situation. He's really good at that, he always has been, even after all these years.
"I don't mind, maybe I can stay over tonight too?" Lassie mentions, her question directed at me.
"I don't see why not. Joey is taking the guest room but you can just stay in my room." I reply, shuffling my feet against the roughly trimmed grass.
"What are we going to do once we make it back with the boy's? Together we're pretty strong, but not strong enough to lug those two tree trunks back inside." Lassie interjects wisely, concern written on her face as her eyes carry over my brother specifically.
My eyebrows shoot up for a moment but my face returns to normal as I conceal my reaction to my observations. "Maybe we could wait in the car until Lucas comes? But my Dad should be home, he could help. Joey is probably going to get in trouble if he does help, though."
"Why is that?" Lassie questions.
As we converse I stifle a laugh as I notice Lucas shoving his friends in the car, haphazardly.
"Joey's parents don't like him drinking, and you know how close our families are. Before you know it, the word is going to spread." I summarize, tiling my head as my attention is brought to Lucas.
Lassie follows my line of sight and shakes her head. "If he's not careful, he'll snap their necks before they actually get into their seats."
I cover my mouth and suppress a laugh, failing to control it as immediately after, my brother and Joey fall backwards onto the grass.
"Are you serious?" Lucas sighs, shuffling over to the two knuckle heads as Lassie and I are still doubling over with laughter.
"Why so serious?" Joey mumbles with a Joker accent, chuckling to himself. Caleb laughs a little too hard, hyperventilating from the not-so-funny joke.
They are so drunk.
I should video this...
As my conscious reminds me, I remove my phone from my black purse sitting at my hip and video the scenario immediately.
"Joey, man, you're the man." Caleb slurs, punching his best friend in the shoulder.
"Dude, Caleb, dude, thanks, dude. You're the dude, dude." Joey groggily responses slowly, returning the punch to Caleb's shoulder.
"Seriously, what would you all do without me?" Lucas jokes, helping up a falling asleep Joey while Lassie and I sober up and pick up my hysterical brother after I put my phone away, bringing him to Lassie's car with difficulty. Lucas follows behind and we somehow get them both inside the confined space without anyone dying.
