It's really great knowing that you've got one of your best friend's back, after them leaving you for a long time. Lucas has meant a lot to me and him springing up out of no where made me realise that even if it was a while ago, I feel bad for the lack of communication that Caleb, Joey and I have been doing. Though I do feel reassured that our friendship has bounced back to the way it was in a matter of seconds. Both being the same for the guys as well, from what I could see at least.
A blush rises to my cheeks as I remember how I reacted when he first came up to me tonight. I thought he was handsome. I mean...I still think that. But as a friend and not a stranger.
But because I know who he is now - and he is my friend - I'm a bit embarrassed.
"Are you okay?" Lucas asks, his eyes falling right onto my own blue orbs.
"Uh yeah," I clear my throat inconspicuously. "Why do you ask?"
"Your face is slowly becoming a tomato." Lucas responds with a finger pointed in the direction of my face, laughter fighting to escape him as his composure begins to crack.
"Shut up." I deflect, getting up abruptly while reaching out my hand for Lucas to latch onto, turning my face to the side in mocked annoyance. Without him questioning it, Lucas does as I planned and takes my hand. Due to the size of him, since he's so tall and muscular, I don't help him up in the slightest, but it's the thought that counts...right?
I let go of his hand swiftly, the redness in my cheeks remaining for an extra second too long and I run the same hand through my knotty mess also known as hair. Cool right?
Right?
"Let's go back inside."
Lucas nods in acknowledgement and follows behind me as my smaller steps walk faster back towards the radiant and loud mansion.
"Favouritism." Is all I hear come out of my brother's mouth once I open the door and step about a foot inside.
Right. As if he didn't need to think that word over in his head five times to make sure he wasn't saying flavourtism.
"And hello to you too." Lucas retorts, shaking his head at his best friend's behaviour.
"Why didn't you stay in with us, we have alcohol in here and chicks that aren't my baby sister." Caleb pouts. Joey begins running up to Caleb. At arrival, looks at Caleb's pout and then turns his attention to Lucas and I with the same pout, oblivious to the situation. This guy is like a lost puppy sometimes, I swear.
"I rather hang out with your sober sister at the moment." Lucas interjects, shrugging lethargically. "Plus you're the one who ran off as soon as Alex left, you dingus."
"TWIN SISTER!" I yell, wanting to intervene and readjust my brothers stupid brain. How many times do I have to tell him? He's such a nincompoop.
"Yeah, yeah, what ever." Caleb waves off, too drunk to understand what he was talking about two seconds ago.
I pinch the bridge of my nose for a moment and then look between the three boys in front of me. My frustration is so heightened today. I'm pretty sure my visit from Aunt Flo isn't for another week or so.
"Well I'm going to look around and see if I recognise anyone." I grumble, more than aware that I'm not being listened to at all, and meander off. I now understand what Lucas meant earlier in the greenhouse by brick walls now. Gah!
I head in the direction of the living room, with the discount disco ball clinging to the roof for dear life. I mean, when in doubt always have tape?
"Alexyyyyyy." My name is called and my eyes immediately widening with fear.
Only one person calls me that.
