A swipe of her hand and her appearance changed to a plain HYDRA officer. Smiling wickedly at her supervisor who watched wide-eyed her actions, she made a shush motion and winked.
What, did they really think she would tell them in detail how her powers worked? What she showed them was only the surface of them.
Following him to his office, she made him destroy every file containing her information. She wanted to disappear.
For that, she had made sure to appear flawed and imperfect to them. So that they wouldn't notice her too much. So that she would be easier to forget and... easier to replace.
With unwilling eyes, he was forced to free her from her chains. The feeling of unending power that suddenly gushed to her almost made her faint. They never totally allowed her to not have a restriction, afraid she would rebel. It would take her a while to get used to it, but she would eventually.
After that, she left by the front door, on a supposed 'mission' for her supervisor. Breathing in the fresh air, she smiled. In the back of her mind, she was made aware that her clone had fulfilled his role. She made her supervisor and her clone fight. Leading to her clone being disposed of, to forever disappear. After that, she made sure to make her supervisor die of heart attack. Like that, no traces were left of experiment Kanedith, she would be branded a failure and would forever disappear from their radars and minds.
A week later, Sarah officially started to exist in this world. She dyed her hair a plain brown and started her new life. A new life in this superhero-filled world.
Officially, Sarah was an orphan with no ties and no past. One of the numerous people with no value and nothing remarkable. Nothing except a body littered with scars and a tortured mind, but that was something nobody knew. Something she wasn't planning on having anybody know.
Quickly, she got employed at a bar near her apartment. If it could even be called one. But she didn't care if it was in the worse part of the city or if the electricity barely worked. All she cared for was the fact that she was finally free. The feeling was exuberant, addicting and sweet. Yes, the feeling of freedom was... sweet.
The bar wasn't bad, it paid enough to pay the rent for her passable apartment and enough to eat something nice every week. Nothing could be worse than her life in HYDRA quarters.
One thing she noticed, was that her body was growing to be like her past life's, it would have been bothersome in the past, but now she didn't care. She had the confidence of being able to protect herself.
Once in a while, as she watched the bar's TV, she saw news on the group called avengers. They seemed to be doing well protecting their planet. They didn't need someone like her. Someone with barely passable morals, who wouldn't hesitate to break a child's arm to win.
"What are you thinking about, Sarah?" asked her coworker while wiping clean a glass. He was still suspicious of her... Like anyone had any interest in posing for a banal worker of this unknown bar. He thought too highly of this bar. The only reason she chose it, was to lay low for a while.
"Nothing." She wasn't one to voice out her thoughts, never was. Even more with someone she didn't trust. Even before traveling to this world, she wasn't one to trust but with HYDRA's spartan training, she was even less likely to.
Seeing these smiling kids turn into killing machines the second after or alluring ladies turn into merciless hunters was enough to make her paranoid. But like they said, 'paranoia kept then alive'. Tss. Even if their goal was less than good, they at least taught her some useful things... things she would put to use, to survive and live like she wanted.
Saying her goodbye to her coworker, she glanced at the dark sky. Walking slowly, taking her time, she ignored the drunk people flirting with her. Her hand went to secure her bag, which contained a bottle of water for obvious reasons.
_______________Opening her apartment's door, she closed it and sighed heavily. Heading toward her bathroom, she started scrubbing her hands harshly. She hated that sensation. Her water bottle was empty, like her heart. Whispering like a mantra 'I'm free, this is nothing.'
She hated herself. She was willing to take a life to keep herself out of view. Out of HYDRA's view. Out of the world's vision. To not being viewed as a weirdo, a mutant, a hero, a villain... to stay normal, to keep her ordinary and banal life.
She couldn't forgive herself but she knew she would do it all again if needed to. She would live in guilt but she would live. She made the choice of her life over others'. It wasn't fair, it wasn't right, it wasn't ethical, but as long as she could fulfill that selfish desire of hers, she would do it. She would stain her hands, her heart. Like a rotten antagonist, she would live hidden, corpses pilling up at her feet.
Collapsing on the floor, she smiled, a smile deprived of happiness, a smile of despair. Silent salty tears ran down her smiling mask. She had to continue, but at what price. She could feel her sanity slipping. She was turning crazy.
The one smiling when killing wasn't her, it couldn't be her!! Holding her head and screaming inside, she started rocking like a broken doll.
Hydra broke her...
Or was she always broken?
She desperately wished someone could just come and hug her, tell her it would be alright. However, she knew, she wouldn't let anyone in. Ever.
Maybe it was her fate; she was destined to dance to heaven's script. Following what was written for her, like a puppet, a plaything to entertain higher beings.

You know, I kinda feel guilty for her, I feel like I broke her and ruined her life... And trust me that's a horrible feeling. *shivers* First time I ever felt like that toward a character I created...
