S'chn Tgai Spock.

She watched him. A lot. But never with his knowledge. She just worked quietly and observed. He was a Vulcan. She wasn't sure what she was.

Captain Kirk never mentioned that he saw her.

"Vi, you working or what?" He joked one day, tapping her on the shoulder.

She jerked and her fist shot out to punch him. She realised in time who it was and relaxed. "My sincere apologies Captain."

"It's fine." He was a little shocked but none the worse.

"You're jumpy." Bones said, passing through.

"It was a logical response to a sudden surprise." Spock said from the other side of the room.

Vi shrugged. "It seemed so to me."

And the day went on. She noted he still limped a little from where he was nearly impaled on a piece of wreckage. That had to have hurt.

Vi had been on the ship for a little while. She didn't have a particular field she excelled in more then another. But everyone had a place at the Enterprise.

She worked on machines. Her fighting skills were fairly good.
Vi loved her job. She knew most of the crew. She wasn't close with anyone in particular though. Kirk and Bones were friendly. She had fairly pleasant interactions with Spock.

She held to this thought as she walked to her next job. In the long time away everyone was pairing up in some way.

She did not. But Vi never let that bring her down. Party on. She was smart but impulsive and had strong emotions.

That was bad. She was currently trying to pull herself together. She wondered why she felt a need to talk to Spock when she saw him. Vi decided to bury that and move on.

"Ready to party?" Bones reappeared.

"Yes." Vi grinned.

"You gonna change into something better?" Bones winked.

Her uniform was not the standard. She preferred trousers and a shirt. All the other female crew had dresses.

"Nope. You never know when a fight will break out. Trousers make more sense in a fight." Vi said cheerfully.

"You sound like Spock. You don't have to be ready for action 24/7." Bones snorted.

Vi shrugged and resumed working.

That night a few met in a room for some drinks.

"Try this!" Bones shoved a glass under her nose.

She sipped it then promptly choked and spat it out. "Oh that's vile!"

"I too have never derived pleasure from that particular beverage." Spock said from the other side of the room.

"This is genuine Zaldarian whisky!" Bones said indignantly.

Vi shrugged again and poured herself a beer. "Who wants to watch some mission files?"

A general clamour cemented it. A screen was lowered and some tapes started.

"Mission Nebula. We crashed after a fierce attack by what is now known to be Beltazar Edison."

Vi watched and sipped her drink. It looked intense.  Then there was a black screen and all she could hear was Spock screaming as Bones ripped out the pipe from his stomach.

She could feel it in her chest. She visibly jerked. Vi felt someone's hand rest on her shoulder.

"That is a normal response to a situation in which another living creature is in pain." Spock said quietly.
