"It would be true wouldn't it." Uhura gave a hollow laugh.

"Nyato I swear this is new to me. I had no idea." Vi was sat with her in a small café in Yorktown.

"You have the ultimate edge."

"I didn't choose to be this."

"He'll always want you now. But I mean it when I say I hope you both are happy together." Uhura bit into her pastry.

"Uhura I'm sorry. I really am. Bones found out months ago but kept it from me. Spock suspected. That's why he started befriending me." Vi pushed aside her plate.

"I loved him. I mean, really loved him. You keep him safe. Please." Uhura looked at her sadly.

"I know. I'm sorry. I wish things were different."

They ate the rest of their food in silence.

By now most knew of Vi's recent discovery of her heritage. A few also knew of the blossoming relationship between her and Spock.

Vi had managed to find her parents' wedding photo. She kept a copy pinned up in her cabin.

"What was your father's name?" Spock had asked her.

"He was S'trk T'Kuk Hokkal." She said the name carefully. She may be half Vulcan but she had grown up on earth with no practice with the language.

"I see. Mine is S'chn T'gai Spock." He said solemnly.

Vi practiced saying it. "Well, according to my birth certificate I am Vi Hokkal. My mother never used it for me though."

Now as she strolled alone through Yorktown, she pondered on her parents. They must have had a fight. Why else would her mother stop using her father's name and raise her like a normal human child?

She brought his picture to mind. He was fairly good looking she supposed, with the same pointed ears and jet black bowl cut that nearly all Vulcans have.

Vi was the exception. Her hair was the same black, but curly. She had no fringe.

"Oof!" She crashed into Bones.

His real name wasn't Bones of course. Leonard McCoy had gone by the name Bones for as long as anyone could remember.

"Where did you spring from?" He dusted himself off.

"Café." Vi pointed a finger. "She's a bit upset."

"Yeah. She just lost her boyfriend to a sexy half Vulcan." He shrugged.

"I did not steal Spock away from her with my DNA. They broke up months before we started even talking." She said crossly. "Is that what everyone thinks?"

"I dunno. I was only speaking for me and her."

"And don't call me sexy." Vi waved a hand distractedly.

"I just call it how I see it." Bones whistled at her as she jogged off.

Vi headed for a lounge where Kirk and Spock usually hung out.

"Kirk can I ask you something?"

"Sure." He looked up from his glass.

"Does everyone think I stole Spock away from Uhura?"

"I surmise you are talking in the emotional sense." Spock frowned.

"I'm sure no one thinks that." Kirk shrugged. "I haven't heard anything."

"Bones thinks so."

"Bones is upset. He still likes you." Kirk poured himself another drink.

"I know. I'm sorry for that."
