The escape....

Matthew and Otto worked their way through the mess that used to be the engineering section. As the progressed further into the section the mess became worse, and worse. Matthew began to notice that whole sections of the ceiling were beginning to cave in, and segments of the wall were also beginning to collapse in on it's self. Matthew really couldn't bare the sight and he was really relieved when they finally came to another well made room.

The room that they had entered was large, much like the computer room, except this one was much more spherical, and in the center of the room was a large yellow cylinder that seemed to have electricity coursing through out it. The cylinder was maybe five feet in length and had an area of maybe 50, had wires and a variety of other things hooked to it, and was placed over a large gap set into the center of the floor. If not for the catwalk like path that circled the perimeter of the room then there would be no where to walk. The cylinder seemed to be hooked up to a large computer which was sitting off to the side and up against one of the walls, and had the wires running across the gap and hooked onto the cylinder. And thankfully Matthew found the Otto and him were not the only two people in the room. As he looked around he saw that the room had maybe another ten scientists running around and trying to fix whatever went wrong. Though Matthew knew full well what had gone wrong. Matthew turned to look at Otto who was gleefully staring at the cylinder with a look of pride filling his gaze. "There it is." He said.

"There what is?"

"That is the power source which powers the whole facility." Otto said as he pointed over to the floating cylinder. "Beautiful isn't it?"

"Yeah lovely. So how do we get out of the facility?"

"In due time Matthew. But first I actually need to stabilize the core."

"What do you mean." Matthew took a look at the floating cylinder again just to make sure it looked okay. "It looks fine to me."

"Oh really? Cause it really shouldn't be glowing yellow. That is not good at all."

Matthew looked at the cylinder and couldn't see anything wrong with it. Sure it was in fact yellow, but it didn't appear to be dangerous. "Why? What does that mean?"

"It means that the thing is probably going to blow. All of the power that this thing used to be out-putting is now being in-putted, and we don't know why. Either way its probably going to blow up any time now. I've had my works trying to slow it down, but I might have to stay behind to keep this thing from going critical."

Matthew continued to stare at the thing for a while, trying to weigh his options. "How bad would it be?"

"Bad enough to leave a crater the size of Russia. No fall out, but it would be destructive."

"And what caused this in the first place?"

"The feed out server. The thing that distributes power to the whole facility stopped. And it's causing horrible feed back." Otto turned to look at Matthew and asked him "What do you think we should be doing?"

Once more Matthew weighed his options. As he did that one of the scientists working the large computer visibly jumped with excitement, and rushed over to meet Otto. "Sir the feed back levels have dropped!" The man said.

"By how much?" Otto replied.

"A factor of 58. Not enough to stop it at all, but it does reduce the area affected."

"When did it drop?"

"When you and that Matthew fellow walked in."

Matthew stopped to weigh his options as a selfless thought came to him. "I think I know why it dropped." Matthew had been wanting to tell Otto about it for quite a while. But didn' have the nerve to say it. "I think I caused this whole mess in the first place. But I think I know how I can possibly fix it, or at least reduce the area of damage."
