"Is that it?" Asked one of the scientists who was still looking down at the ground in shock.
"Yes that is it. I think he actually did it." Otto replied as he too found himself glaring down at the ground which was now beginning to sink in. "But I suggest we move before we unwillingly find ourselves back in the labs." With that him and the other scientists bolted for a large cover of foliage to their side. Once there they looked back at the slowly sinking ground.
"What do you think happened?" Asked one of the scientists as he continued to look at the sinking ground.
"I think we don't have to worry about work tomorrow. The labs are destroyed. The blast was probably strong enough to destroy the rest of that place, and more than likely also destroyed anything and everything that was still down there. I must admit I feel sorry for Matthew." Otto thought about the explosion itself for a while and came to an odd conclusion. "Guys I think that everything that was in there was destroyed. That includes anything dangerous. So I guess at least we don't need to worry about innocent civilians getting hurt because of it."
"But what about all of that research?" Asked one of the scientists.
"And what about all of those wonders down there?" Asked another.
Otto thought for a moment about that. He was upset about losing all of those things down there. All of those things that he still had to study. All of those wondrous things. But also he found himself remembering what Matthew was saying about them using human test subjects. "Yeah I know we lost many wonders down there, but we also lost a lot of people down there. Honestly when I think back on it, we were doing wrong things. We were sacrificing people for the purpose of research. What kind of progress is that?"
All of the scientists looked up at him, even the ones who were still looking over at the sinking ground, but none of them looked angry. They looked like they had just realized something very obvious for the first time. Like they had just realized something that they should have figured out a long time ago. And within a moment they all looked away, none of them looked in the same direction. They all looked in different directions, almost like they were suddenly sick of each other. They were sick with each other but also with themselves.
"Exactly. So yes we did lose many interesting things down there, but in all fairness maybe it was for the best, don't you guys think it might have been for the best?" He waited for an answer but no one replied. "That is my point exactly. We are all horrible people. Aren't we?"
They all looked back at him once more. Then one scientist said "But it would have been nice if at least one of those things survived."
Otto only nodded his head, and started laughing. He realized that they were never going to change. He realized that they were all just going to be monsters anyway, and they would never care about the bad things that they did. He slowly slid his hand into his coat pocket and pulled out a piece of tin foil, then he slowly wrapped it around his head. All of the scientists looked at him puzzled. Then he said "Well then I guess you all will never change. So if you guys really are hoping that one of those wonders survived then I think you will all be happy to know that a certain mind reading subject probably survived." He saw all of the scientists looks suddenly turned to shock.
"What have you done?" One of them asked.
"Cleaning house." Otto replied, and with that he started walking away, just as he started away he could hear the screams starting. It was music to his ears, as he heard all of the loose ends being ties, and all of the evil dieing with those labs. He thought it would be quite a walk home, but thankfully he didn't live too far away.

Otto walked up to the generator and saw that there was nothing wrong with it at all. The poor fellow must have simply miss read the data stream and thought there was something wrong with it, but everything checked out. "What is wrong with it?" He asked the man.
"I thought it was losing power... I guess I was wrong."
Otto laughed then he said "Oh no it probably was low. The thing fluctuates all the time. Its completely normal." He said smiling.
"Oh okay good. I thought I had messed something up." I guess I will get back to work then."
"You do that."
"Sorry for wasting your time."
"No it's fine."
And with that the man walked away, leaving Otto unattended with the machine. He looked at it, and quickly pressed a few keys and turned a few knobs. All the while smiling. After doing so he severed the keys connection to the computer so that no one would be able to tamper with it. Then he quickly walked away. After what Matthew had said to him he had really started thinking, and realized Matthew was right. They were wrong in doing what they did. And he intended to fix it as much as he could. They needed to be saved from themselves.
To be fair he had been thinking about it for quite some time, It was only fair, and he needed a clean conscience, so he would do what was fair.

Otto continued with his pace, getting as far away from those sick people as fast as he could. He was ever so happy that he was now fixing those sick people. He gave them a Chance, and they didn't take it.
Though he felt bad for Matthew. Matthew would probably get all of the blame, though he really was a nice guy and didn't deserve it. But there was nothing Otto could do about that, so he would just be happy with saying that Matthew died for a good cause. He was sure that if Matthew was standing right next to him they would be high fiveing each other.
Then the screams stopped. Otto looked back and saw a mess of what used to be the group scientists that he had escaped with. He also saw a floating face hidden by a tick cloud of smoke, with red glowing eyes staring right at him. He smiled at it, and of course waved, just to be polite. Then he continued walking away. The only reason it hadn't attacked him was because of the tin foil hat. And after thanking the thing he started walking away again, not worried about it hurting anyone else. So long as he didn't tell anyone about it, it wouldn't have anyone or anything to hunt.
As he walked even farther away, now certain that his mission was a success he began patting himself on the back, realized just how good of a job he did.
The end...
