"Jasper darlin, you could have at least gotten dressed." My mom said eyeing what I was wearing. I can feel my cheeks flush a little bit, "I didn't think we were having company over. I wasn't informed. I could go change, after all it is rude to be in sweats and an old T-shirt with guest from your child hood over." Before my mom could say anything else I swiftly went back up stairs to get ready.
Instead of just changing cloths I took a quick shower, fixed my hair, and got quickly dressed. I went back down stairs to my mother and her friends. Their daughter wasn't in the living room and I relaxed a little."Good afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Edison. How are you two?" I asked in a polite manner.
"We are fine, thank you. How are you doing kiddo? And my goodness how you've grown! I haven't seen you since you were twelve maybe thirteen. It's been a while." Mr. Edison says with a stunned look on his face.
"Well.." I begin.
"Jasper, don't be rude. Introduce yourself to their daughter." My mom says giving my a push in her direction.
"Of course mom, I'm sorry." I turn towards the couch where she was sitting at and she wasn't there. I hear a soft giggle and a poke on my left shoulder blade.
I quickly turn around. "Oh, uh. Hi. I'm Jasper." I say nervously. I knew where this was going and I didn't like one bit of it. My mom didn't know I hated this. She didn't notice a lot of things come to think of it. The girl looks into my eyes and says "I'm Alyson, but you can call me Ally."
We eventually sit down and start talking about our interests, hobbies, and school. I see my mother and her friends talking, I tried to listen in but Alyson just wouldn't shut up, not even for a minute. That was definitely a con.
I guess she eventually figured out what I was doing and joined in. I leaned back in my chair and scoffed. "What is it? What are they saying?" She asked desperately.
"They're talking about us.""What about us? We just met!"
"Hey, calm down. Don't talk so loud. They may hear us. They said something about this-" I role my sleeve up revealing my mark just past the palm of my hand. "My mom was talking about my mark to your parents. It's stupid really. I don't think we would have the same-" I looked up to face her and her face was pale as if she was sick to her stomach, "Alyson..?" I asked cautiously.
She looked shocked. Like someone just came up and slapped her in the face with a rotten piece of meat. I looked down at her hands. She was fumbling with her bracelet. I didn't notice how big it was until now. It was a two inch wide leather bracelet, no. It was some kind of watch. There were tiny different designs on it. She undid the leather strings and pulled it off, revealing her mark."No.. It.. It can't be." I stood up quickly and began to walk away.
"Jasper! What are you doing? Are you okay? Jasper answer me!" My mothers tone had a hint of anger, desperation, and I couldn't quite make out the other one.
Whatever it was it was enough to snap me back to reality. I looked at my mother and I could see fear written across her face. I answered back immediately. "Mom, she has.. she has the same ma-mark." I stuttered out.
My mom quickly takes my wrist and Alyson's. She turns back to Mr. and Mrs. Edison. "I believe he's right. The exact same." She lightly lets go of us and I quickly excuse myself from the living room.
As soon as I get to my room I close and lock the door. What the hell is going on? Why did this have to happen so soon? My mother didn't meet my dad until she was nearly twenty-five years old. I wasn't ready for this. I didn't want to be with Alyson. I wasn't going to let some stupid mark tell me who I was destined to be with. I felt nothing for Alyson and nor did I want to.
I already knew who I wanted but that was forbidden. Did I care? I don't know. Would I within time? I guess I would find out. One thing I was for sure about was that Alyson and I were not going to end up together. Even if it hurt her and my mother.
