The dog shelter was in the main town, so my dad had to drive us there.

"Now, no tantrums!" my mom warned Elliot.

Elliot nodded and my dad stopped the car.

I got out of the car and looked at the shelter. It was a big building with grey walls. I could already hear dogs barking.

Inside the shelter was much nicer. The reception was warm and had couches in front of a fireplace. A pretty girl that couldn't be older than 25 greeted us when we entered.

"Welcome, how can I help you guys?" she smiled.

"We're looking to adopt a dog" my mom smiled.

"Of course, follow me!" the girl said, beginning to walk down the hall.

We followed her through a door, which led to a large room, filled with large stall-like rooms. Each stall had a big window, which allowed you to see inside.

"All the dogs in this room are able to be adopted. Have a look around, and if you have any questions about the dogs, ask me!" she smiled.

I began looking into the the stalls. There were dogs of all sizes and ages. One in particular caught my eye though. A speckled grey border collie puppy. He was gorgeous.

"Eh, sorry, could you tell me about this guy?" I asked the girl.

"Of course! This is Buddy, a beautiful blue Merle border collie pup. He's 3 months, and is almost trained. He's lively and needs a lot of exercise and space, and prefers to sleep indoors!" she explained.

I looked at my parents, who were listening to her talk too.

"'Mom can we please get him, he's beautiful" I begged.

"Well Elliot and your dad seem to love this fella" my mom said, gesturing towards a young German shepherd.

"Ah yes, that's Pilot! He's a 6 month old German shepherd, a brilliant companion. He's fully trained and is brilliant with kids!" the woman told us.

I already knew what would happen. They'd choose the German shepherd. It just made sense.

"Do you think both of those dogs would get along living together?" my mom asked.

I looked at her in shook. She was going to get two dogs?

"Of course! They're great friends! Are you going to adopt them or do you need more time to decide?"

"I think we've decided, we want both!" my dad smiled.

"Great! You'll just need to come to the office and sign all the paperwork, and a house check will need to be done!"

My mom and dad followed her out of the room. Elliot was smiling away to himself, looking at Pilot. I looked at Buddy, who gazed up at me happily. It was as if he knew he was going to be given a home.
