Buddy and Pilot were getting on great. They had only been here for about three days, but they already seemed at home.

"C'mon, Bud! Walkies" I called.

Buddy looked up at me, as if he understood, before trotting over happily. I clipped his lead onto his black collar and opened the back door.

I walked Buddy twice a day, usually in the woods. I liked it there, and I didn't really have anything else to do. It was summer, so I didn't have school, and I hadn't really talked to any neighbours, although my parents had.

Buddy pulled at the lead, trying to break free and run. I wish I could let him off the lead, but he was still too young and unfamiliar with this place.

"Sorry, Buddy" I sighed. He was the only one I really had that I could talk to.

He looked up at me, and for a split second he understood, but then the second passed and he was running, dragging me after him.

We ran down the path. Well he ran and I stumbled after. We were by the lake again. Buddy loved the lake, probably because of its location. It was a big grassy field with birds and flowers, which excited him.

I led him towards a bench, which he jumped up onto. I sat next to him, and tied his lead to the bench. I did not want to be dragged away.

"Nice dog!"

I jumped up in fright and spun around. A boy with dark hair and big blue eyes was standing there, a husky at his feet.

"Ehm, uh, thanks" I mumbled.

"I complimented the dog, not you" the guy rolled his eyes.

I ignored him, and sat back down.

"Mind if I sit here?" He still hadn't left.

"Uh, sure, go ahead" I said, making room for him.

He sat down and smiled, "What's his name?"

"Buddy" I mumbled. It had been a long time since I had a conversation with anybody my age.

"This is Luna" he told me, gesturing towards the husky. The husky was calm, sitting quietly next to the guy. Buddy, on the other hand, was biting my hoodie, trying to pull it apart.

"So, what's your name?" he asked.

"Ella, what about you?" I had to make an effort to seem like a decent human.

"I'm Jack" he smiled. Jack, that was a nice name.

Buddy was getting hyper, and was actually beginning to rip my jumper, "Er, I gotta go, bye!"

I jumped up and tried to walk away quickly, but ended up standing there awkwardly trying to untangle Buddy's lead from the bench. Jack laughed and stood up, untangling it for me.

"Thanks, eh, see ya!" I grabbed Buddy's lead and half ran half walked away. Thankfully he didn't follow.
