The rain patterned against my window pane. I shut the curtains , hoping that would help, but it made no difference. Sighing, I lay back on my bed. Buddy and Pilot were curled up on my bedroom floor, asleep. Thank god.

I thought about the guy from the lake. Jack. His dog was beautiful, slender and elegant. Jack was tall and not very elegant. Then again, I didn't really know him.

"El," my mom called from the hall.

    "Come in," I shouted.

My mom opened the door and entered my room, "I'm going into town, wanna come?"

I looked at my drawn curtains, "In this weather?"

"It's supposed to be drying in a while, and I need to get a few bits anyway. I'm leaving in twenty minutes so be ready for then if you're coming," she said, leaving.

I stood up and walked towards my wardrobe. I pulled out my black bomber jacket, a grey hoodie and a pair of black jeans. I quickly changed into them before beginning to brush my brown hair. I tied it into a ponytail and ventured downstairs.

My dad and Elliot were sitting on the couch watching some soccer game. I walked to the kitchen, and grabbed an apple, sitting down at the table.

    Buzz.

I looked down at my phone. It was a text from Alex.

Alex: hey, haven't seen you in ages! Wanna meet up tomorrow?

Alex used to be my best friend, but after everything with Dylan we grew apart, even though she tried to keep in contact. I had completely forgotten to tell her I had moved. Fuck.

"Oh, you're ready!" my mom strolled into the kitchen, placing her handbag on the marble counter.

I nodded and picked at my fingernails. I couldn't believe I had forgotten to tell Alex I moved.

I followed my mom into the car and stared out the window. I didn't know what to say to Alex, so I just chose to not text her back. It was a new start after all.
