Alexandra was hungry. Not just hungry. Starving. The night had taken more from her than she remembered and now all she wanted was food. That was all she thought about through transfiguration. The dead snake she was supposed to transfigured into a pen- she ended up with an inedible lollipop. And Charlie had smiled good naturedly, muttering about how it was okay to make a mistake. Alexandra's mood just soured at that.

Lunchtime just could not come quick enough. Her dorm mates began to avoid her. She was never kind- she was even mean, sometimes, but today she was harsher than usual. She trudged to the great hall for lunch, helping herself to a slice of pizza.
"You're acting odd today." Cedric remarked, sitting beside her. "You've successfully driven your roommates away, and you still don't look happy."

"You don't know me. Stop pretending like you do. I'm not a charity case for you to end up bragging about. I don't need your pity and I certainly don't need your friendship."

"Ouch." Hermione remarked sitting on her other side. "That's ruder then usual."

"What are you doing here? You're not a Hufflepuff."

"No, but the temperature dropped by about twenty degrees the minute you stepped in the great hall."

"Don't you already have a Weasley to worry about?"

"You were my friend first. Are you asking me to leave your brother to fend for himself?"

"Just leave me alone." She took her slice of pizza with her as she stormed out of the great hall. Hermione and Cedric looked after her.

"I'll go." Hermione said, and followed after her. She caught up to Alex by the stairs. "What's wrong? Why are you so angry today?"

"Today? This is who I am, Hermione. Get used to it. Or don't, you probably won't see me after July."

"Is that why you're acting like this? You've decided to go?"

"I haven't decided anything yet, although getting away from here sounds appealing."

"This isn't you. This is who you don't want to be, Lex."

"Or maybe this is me. Maybe you don't really know anything about me at all."

"If you're going to push me away, try to be believable."

"I don't care what you believe. I don't care about you."

"Stop it!"

"Stop what, Hermione?"

"This isn't you. I don't know what happened last night, but the real Alex is mean to push people away, not to hurt them."

"You don't know the real Alex. I'm not your friend, Hermione. I never was. I just pitied you." Alexandra flounced off, leaving Hermione with glassy eyes.

The next day, Alexandra went through lessons avoiding her classmates and Hermione easily. That evening was her lesson with Snape. She walked into the classroom with a scowl.
"Someone's upset." He barely glanced up before looking back at the potion he was brewing.

"I thought you were a potion master, not a guidance counsellor."

"I thought you wanted to learn legilimency, not aggravate your professor." She rolled her eyes.
