Alexandra and Hermione had learned all there was to know about unicorns and had pretty much finished Alexandra's essay. They didn't need to interview Dumbledore, but they were both curious so they decided to anyways. Before they left the library, the girls approached Madam Pince to return the two books they'd been using for research, though Alexandra still hadn't told Hermione of the small black book weighing in her bag. Alexandra also decided to give up the books Quildemort had gotten for her. Madam Pince was delighted to say the least. They didn't have many muggle fictional books in the Hogwarts library.
"So are you going to record this interview or take notes?"
"I was thinking we could both take notes, in case I miss something but you write it down."
"Sure. Oh, I can't believe you're going to interview Dumbledore."
"You mean we." Alexandra corrected. "We're in this together Hermione. It might be my homework, but learning about dark creatures is your project as much as it is mine."
"It's so sad that they're classified as dark creatures when they're so pure."
"The wizarding world likes to pretend it's more advanced than the muggle world, but it really isn't. They're quite horrible to things they don't understand."
"Do you know what you want to do when you're older?" Hermione asked. "I mean, I know potions is your preferred subject, but you'd be really good at being the minister of magic or something. You could change the world."
"Politics really isn't my thing. I'd like to be a healer or something. Besides if I were to even work for the ministry of magic, I'd have to get a full background check. No one would ever let me anywhere near a seat of power."
"Really?"
"Yeah, really." She shrugged. They were outside Dumbledore's office. "Sherbet lemon." The gargoyle moved and let them through and the girls walked onto the platform. They were lifted up to Dumbledore's office.
"Miss Weasley, Miss Granger." Dumbledore greeted.
"Professor." Alexandra smiled innocently. "Professor Snape has assigned an essay for my DADA lessons and I was hoping I could interview you."
"Yes, he informed me. I didn't realise Miss Granger would be joining us." He said.
"Hermione's helping me with my research."
"Right." He said before gesturing to the chairs in front of his desk. He sat behind the desk. Alexandra got two notebooks and muggle pens out of her bag. The pens were a birthday gift from her father, and he'd gotten her one of the books too. She replicated it to make more than one. "Where would you like to begin?"
"Unicorns sometimes give extra powers to people who save them, right?"
"Yes, that is correct. Sometimes if they find the individual to be helping them with pure intention, they will gift them."
"I heard you brought the unicorns here so they could live peaceful lives. Is that true?" Alexandra asked.
"Yes."
"So that means you kind of saved them right? To live good lives some place where they could be free."
"I suppose you could think of it that way." He smiled.
"Were you given any extra powers?"
"No, I was not." Alexandra looked down, disappointed, but nodded. "However, the next day, Fawkes was on my windowsill."
"You mean, he appeared to you because you saved the unicorns? Your gift was a Phoenix?"
"Yes. I was a teacher when I suggested bringing the unicorns here. I brought them here and the next day Fawkes was there. He never left my side and I decided not to question it." Alexandra and Hermione both scribbled down notes.
"Have you ever met anyone else who's helped a unicorn?" Hermione asked.
"No, no one who's said anything at least." He said.
"So, you have no idea where Fawkes came from?"
"I'm sorry." He shook his head.
"Is Fawkes like a familiar? Do you have a special bond to him?" Hermione asked.
"Yes, that's exactly what he's like." Dumbledore said. "He's more of an extension of myself, really."
"Can you understand him? Like, talk to him?" Alexandra asked.
"No, I cannot." Dumbledore shook his head. The girls looked at each other and nodded.
"Okay, thanks professor." Alexandra said as she and Hermione stood up. He stood up too.
"I hope all goes well with your essay, Miss Weasley." He nodded.
"Thank you professor." She replied before heading to the elevator.
"Bye professor." Hermione waved, following Alexandra out. Once they were out, she looked at Alexandra. "Where to next?"
"I kind of wanna write my notes up into my essay later tonight."
"So you have an excuse to stay away from the rest of the student body?"
"I need to go see professor Snape. You're welcome to come with me, but I know you really don't like him." Alexandra shrugged.
"No, it's okay. I'll come with you, but I'm staying behind you at all times."
"Hermione, I love you for trying to be brave but it's okay. Besides, you should probably go and make sure Ron hasn't gotten lost in his dorm or something." Alexandra laughed.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah."
"For the record, I still think you should tell him. He'd understand."
"No, he wouldn't."
"You're not a coward, Alex. Don't act like one. Tell him."
"Goodbye Hermione!" Alexandra called walking away.
