ELENA'S POV:

Mattia held my hand in his as we walked to his car. Alejandro and Vic followed close behind us, also hand in hand. He started the engine but we saw someone running out of the school, waving at us.

"Wait" he yelled. I squinted my eyes, and tried to get a better look, and of course it was Kairi. He ran over to Mattia's window, and reluctantly Mattia opened it.

"Could you give me a ride?" He said, out of breath. Mattia turned to look at me, and so did Vic and Alejandro.

"Just do it" I said blankly. I didn't want to give him a ride, but if I was in his position, I'd want someone to give me a ride too. Besides, my Ma didn't raise me to not help people who needed it most.

Kairi shot me a grateful look and got in the back, next to Alejandro.

"You gotta fix your girl man" said Alé, taking ahold of Vic's hand.

"She's not my girl anymore" Kairi replied. I looked at Mattia and he had a relieved look on his face, and so did Vic and Alejandro.

"What?" asked Mattia, a hint of sarcasm in his voice.

Kairi shrugged "we broke up"

"Again" murmured Vic. Kairi looked at Vic.

"I'm so sorry for everything she put you through, you didn't deserve any of it" he apologised.

"Yeah we didn't" said Alejandro.

"I'm sorry she threatened your relationship like that, but I'm happy you guys pulled through it, you're a strong couple, you didn't deserve it" he repeated, putting his head down. Alejandro's eyes turned soft and he put his hand on Kairi's shoulder.

"You can't help it that she's a psycho, but thank you for the apology Kai" said Vic. Kairi smiled at her and so did Alejandro.

"Sorry to ruin the mood but, Alicia's still coming to Valley Hight isn't she?" said Mattia with a frown. I put my hand on his and smiled.

"Who cares? We've all got each other, along with Alvaro, Roshaun and Robert. And that's all we need to worry about. Just let karma run it's course babe" I said, leaning over to kiss his cheek.

"So why did you even date her again?" Vic asked Kairi. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair.      I turned to look at him, I wanted to hear his answer.

"Rebound" He said turning red and looking at the ground.

Mattia chuckled to himself.

"I knew you weren't in love with her" he said.

Nothing else was said till we got to Kairi's house. The silence was uncomfortable, yet weirdly comfortable at the same time.

"Thanks for the ride Mattia, see you guys on Monday" he said, before getting out the car. I watched him walk away and I couldn't help myself anymore. I opened the door before Mattia had a chance to put the car into reverse.

"Wait!" I said loudly, causing Kairi to turn around. I got out the car and ran over to him.

"What's wrong Elena?" asked Kairi, he looked at me like I was crazy, but in that moment I couldn't hold myself back.

"I need to know why you felt like you needed a rebound after we broke up" I said, breathlessly.

Kairi shook his head and turned to go into his house.

"That's not important" he said, but I reached out and took ahold of his arm.

"Kairi please"

He turned to face me and looked into my eyes.

"I couldn't get over you. I'm still not over you. I needed Alicia so I could get you out of my head, but it didn't work" he said.

Well I didn't expect that.

I looked at the grass, and pressed my lips together. Kairi opened his school bag.

"Here" he said, placing something in the palm of my hand. I looked and it was the bracelet that I saw in his room.

"It was originally for you at Christmas, but we didn't make it that far, so" his voice trailed off.

"Look I know we've been through a lot Kairi, and I know there were times when we wished that we'd never met each other, but we did meet each other. And I'm grateful for that, because you gave me some of the best memories" I said, making him smile.

He thought about it for a second.

"We did have some pretty good times, didn't we?"

"Yeah we did, and just because we weren't meant to be, I don't want to lose our friendship too, our friendship is so precious to me" I said, looking hopefully at him.

He nodded his head and took my hand in his.

"I'd love to keep our friendship Elena, I'd really like that" he said. I smiled and pulled him into a hug.

"See you Monday Elena" he said, entering his house.

"See you Monday Kairi" I called, as I made my way back to the car. I sat in the car and breathed a sigh of relief. Mattia smiled and squeezed my shoulder.

"Are you guys good now?" he asked.

"It's like nothing ever happened" I grinned.

We dropped Vic and Alejandro off at Ale's house, and Mattia was going to stay the night at mine.

We pulled up outside my house, and I saw Mike's car next to my Mom's. I rolled my eyes and Mattia soon realised why.

"Do you wanna go to mine instead?" He said softly. But I shook my head.

"I'm not letting him ruin our evening" I said, opening the car door and getting out. I had a weird feeling in my gut but I tried to get my mind off it, and focus on Mattia.

We entered the house and I could smell my Mom's famous pasta bake. I smiled and made my way to the kitchen, to see her making it at the stove.

"Hey Ma" I said, walking over to her and giving her a hug. She hugged me back, and smiled at Mattia.

"Hey you guys, Mattia are you staying for dinner?" she asked, looking over at him. He opened his mouth to answer but I beat him to it.

"Actually, he's staying the night" I said quickly. My mom bit her lip nervously and went back to cooking.

"Oh I can totally go home if you want Miss Hill" said Mattia, but I shook my head.

"Ma what happened?" I said quietly, putting my hand on her arm.

She turned to me and gave me a weak smile.

"I should probably check with Mike first" she said, causing me to roll my eyes.

"Are you kidding? Why are you running everything by him now? Mattia is my boyfriend and he's staying" I said with my newfound confidence.

Mom nodded and turned to get some plates. When she turned I noticed there was a mark on her shoulder. I looked at Mattia and he was looking in the same direction as I was.

I looked a little closer to try and see what it was.

A bruise.
