~Time skip~
I was at home trying to fall asleep when I heard a knock at the door. I get up still half asleep and open the door. "Hello?"
"Oh hey (Y/N)"
"What are you doing here Shikamaru?" I ask thinking its night
"What do you mean what am I doing here we have a mission remember"
"Shit, I forgot. I didn't pack. Shikamaru come on in while I pack my bag"
"Alright," he said walking in "You've got a nice set up here"
"Yeah, I redecorated since the last time you were here. I got us a Shogi board so we can play when you're over" I said looking at the room
I pack up my stuff and we leave "I can't wait for this mission its the first mission since..... the incident" I say
"yeah," Shikamaru says in a sad voice
" I'm sorry Shikamaru I didn't mean to bring it up," I said remembering this is a very touchy topic for him
"No, it's fine don't worry about it I'll be fine"
"Ok, if you say so," I said as we walk to the gates meeting up with Choji and Ino we head out to our mission
"What was the mission again," I ask everyone had a sweatdrop
"We're supposed to escort a very important person from the sand village" Shikamaru answers
"Oh, Who are we escorting?" I ask
"Temari, the Kazekage's sister," Shikamaru says
'FUCK I hate that girl! every time she's here she tries to take Shikamaru away from me' I think to myself. "Oh really" I try to say as if I don't hate her guts
"Yeah Temari, you and I are going to plan the Chunin exams," Shikamaru said
'Fuck no, I am not trying to spend time with that bitch. But I guess it's fine since I can keep her away from Shikamaru' I thought smirking
"Lets set up camp it's going to be dark soon," Shikamaru says
"Right," we all say at the same time
And with that, we started setting up camp. when we finished there was still some light left so I sat at a tree and thought about Asuma. Shikamaru comes over "What are you thinking about?"
"Just about Asuma" I start to say teary-eyed. Asuma and I were very close we had a father-daughter bond but I wasn't really his daughter it just felt like I was
"Oh" Shikamaru said sitting down next to me.
He tried to comfort me by hugging me but it didn't work I just started crying "Why? Why did Asuma have to leave us? Why does it always have to be me? Why Shikamaru? WHY?"
"(Y/N), you know I'm always here for you. No matter what happens I will never leave your side" Shikamaru said
"But, this is all my fault! The only reason I became a shinobi is so I wouldn't have to deal with this again. I don't want to feel like I'm useless not being able to help my loved ones. I've gone through this before Shikamaru, you were there"
"(Y/N), I know how you feel we've been through this before with your dad I know that's why you became a shinobi but if you can't let go of the past, then there won't be a future for you. Yes, I know you and Asuma were very close but so was I. I know what you're going through now, I'm grieving just like you. But if we aren't here for each other then who knows what might happen. (Y/N), we can get through this together"
"*sniff* thank *sniff* you Shikamaru," I say starting to calm down
"Let's go back before it turns completely dark" Shikamaru suggests
"Ok let's go then," I say while we walk to the camp
"Where were you guys? We were starting to worry" Ino says in a mad tone
"What a drag, you know we're shinobi right? We can protect ourselves" Shikamaru says
"Fine, whatever just know that next time I won't be worried and I'll let you die," Ino said but I knew she was lying she cares about her comrades a lot and they mean the world to her
"Let's all just turn in for the night," Shikamaru said
We all went into our tents. Ino and I in one tent and Shikamaru and Choji in the other
"SO, what were you ACTUALLY doing with Shikamaru?" Ino asked she knows about me liking Shikamaru
