There was nothing but darkness surrounding her as she opened her eyes. She had no idea where she was or how she had gotten to this place. She looked around but could see nothing due to the absence of light. Her body was starting to quiver, though she didn't know if it was because of the fact it was freezing cold, or because she was becoming more and more terrified by the minute.
Then it hit her, she was sitting against something that felt like a wall. If she could just feel her way along the wall she would have to come to the way out. “There has to be a door.” she thought to herself. She attempted to stand up but her efforts were met with an unimaginable pain in her right side. The cold air pierced her lungs as she put her hand over her right rib cage and gasped. She lifted her shirt a bit, feeling around on her ribs, trying to see if she had broken something. Then, she gasped for air again. She could feel a wound, it was deep, and she could feel the blood coming out of it. It was as if she had been stabbed.
She tried to scream for help but her screams were only answered by silence. What could she do? Her mind was racing as she grew even more terrified. Someone had to have done this to her, but who, and why. She tried to stand once again but was met with sharp pain and left gasping for air. Then she saw something, or did she just think she did. She looked around at the darkness. Had her mind just been playing tricks on her? Then she saw it again. A flash of light, under a crack in the wall right across from her. She didn't know whether to scream for help again or be silent.
At that moment a door flew open. She realized that she had been mistaken about the light coming from a crack in the wall, but she had realized her mistake too late. Someone was glaring at her from the open door. She could not make out there face because the light they were holding was too bright. Her breaths became more panicked. Who were they and what did they want? The person drew closer to her. She screamed, fear filling every ounce of her. The figure reached out to grab her. She shrieked with horror. “NO! PLEASE NO! SOMEONE HELP ME! NO!”
“NO!” Amelia screamed jumping up from her bed. “Lia what's your problem?” her housemate asked concerned, as she turned on Amelia's bedroom light. Amelia was still trying to catch her breath when her housemate asked again. “Amelia? Are you ok?” She had finally caught her breath when she answered, “I'm fine Katy. I just had a nightmare.” Katy looked at her, “ Are you sure you are ok? I mean, you were screaming like someone was killing you.” She smile half-halfheartedly,“I'm fine. I promise.” she said trying to sound convincing. Katy sighed, shaking her head, and left the room.
Amelia looked at the clock on her night stand. It was 4:52 in the morning. She sighed. She had her alarm set for five so she could get up, finish her homework, and get ready for class. She went to her desk and pulled out her notebook. She just wanted to forget about the nightmare. She didn't invest much of her time in dwelling on her dreams. She began finishing up her homework from the night before. When she finally finished she had an hour before she had to be to her first class of the day.
She jumped in the shower, then got dressed, made coffee, and was about to head out of the house when Katy walked into the kitchen. “You know if you would just get a boyfriend, you would probably have less nightmares.” she laughed. Amelia scowled at her. “Hey I'm just speaking my mind. I mean I haven't had a nightmare in years.” “Hate to break it to you Katy, but dreaming about Kevin is a nightmare, you're just in denial.” Amelia retorted. “Lia that's not nice,” Katy said with a giggle, “he rocks my world, in and out of dreams.” Amelia put one hand on her mouth and the other on her stomach, acting like she was about to vomit. Katy just laughed. “You're just jealous because I have a life outside of college.” Katy scoffed. Amelia rolled her eyes and threw a rag at her.
