He said his good nights to Kevin as the night sky had fallen and walked to the spare bedroom of Kevin's house. Closing the door behind him, he let out a sigh, then made his way over to the bed. He hated following human routines and despised pretending to sleep. It not like he actually slept anyways, he was a vampire and he didn't need to.

Laying there, with nothing to do but think, he found his mind wandering back to her. Kevin had asked him earlier what he thought of her, but instead of telling the truth, he played it cool and said she was alright. The truth was he didn't know what to think about her or why he could not stop thinking about her. Though she was stunningly beautiful, and her scent was almost irresistibly intoxicating, she was still only human. He couldn't even explain to himself why she was so appealing to him, let alone explaining it to Kevin. All he knew for certain was, for some unknown reason, he felt a connection with her.

The following day in class, Amelia found it very difficult to concentrate. Her mind was completely occupied with thoughts of him and the strange way he made her feel. She tried to shake him out of her head but it wasn't working very well. She was only able to tear away from thinking about him, when her lab partner interrupted her thoughts with a question. “Huh?” she asked looking at him sheepishly.

He wasn't very attractive. He looked like he had gone through puberty later than most with pimples covering his entire face. He wore braces on his teeth and his black hair was curly and frizzy. His clothing choice wasn't the best and he didn't have the greatest hygiene at times. He was a good person though and despite people making fun of him, he was happy go lucky. He didn't have many friends but he and Amelia instantly clicked. They had become good friends mostly because their personalities were so similar, with the exception that he was more outgoing. “I said do you want to dissect the mouse or would you like me too?” he said raising one eyebrow in curiosity. “Are you ok today? You seem a little out of it.”

Amelia gave him half a smile and said “I'm fine Dustin. I was just zoning out some. I'm just a little tired because I haven't been sleeping well. That's all.” He gave her a doubt filled look and sighed. “I'm serious. I'm fine.”

“If you say so.” he responded. “So whose cutting this thing open?” he questioned. He gave her a look that suggested he really didn't want to be the one to do it. She sighed then politely smiled and took the scalpel. He smiled with relief and said “thank you.”

“Oh you don't have to thank me.” she replied with a devilish grin. He looked at her curiously for a moment before asking “Whyyyy?” drawing out the question more that necessary. She let out a small giggle and then said “because now you owe me big time and I will make sure you pay your debt.” They both began laughing together when a girl a few stations over slammed down her scalpel and walked towards them.

Amelia glanced over and saw her coming and already knew what was about to happen. The girl was attractive. She had short blonde hair that was styled and fit her face shape well. She had an athletic build but not looking too hard. She was slightly taller than Amelia. She always wore the latest fashions and her make-up was always perfect. But behind that pretty face lurked an evil person and Amelia knew it. The girl had been her personal tormentor since there junior year in high school. And for what reasons Amelia never knew.

The girl was now merely inches away from Dustin but had her eyes set on Amelia. If looks could kill was the only thing Amelia had going through her mind. “To what do we owe this pleasure?” Dustin asked sarcastically to acknowledge her presence. Her eyes shifted to him and then back to Amelia before she decided to answer.

“Oh I was just wondering if you two could shut the hell up?” she stated loud enough to gather everyone's attention in the room.

With everyone's attention drawn too them, Amelia began to shrink in her seat. She stared down at her hands so no one could see that her face was becoming flushed red with anger and embarrassment. Dustin patted Amelia's shoulder to calm her down then turned back to the girl.
