as the clock just barely passed 5, poppy rushed to the hair salon. she unintentionally hadn't made an appointment sooner, which she soon realized was a huge mistake considering the fact that the whole village would be coming to her party.
about 10 feet away from the hair salon, poppy stopped dead on her tracks.
she remembered there was no way she could we her hair done at the salon! everyone would see her hair before the party even started!
she quickly turned around and stopped at satin and chenille's pod. out of breath, she practically banged on their door.
"woah, girl," chenille said, looking at her up and down. "why are you so sweaty?"
panting, poppy said, "i need..i need you guys to...do my hair for me."
satin raised one eyebrow. "you want us. to do you hair. for you big night. when you can just get it done professionally?"
"i don't want everyone to see my hair. it has to be a surprise."
satin tried to argue, but before she could. chenille pulled poppy inside and sat her down on a spinning chair.
"now what is the queen thinking today?" she asked, picking up a hairbrush.
"whatever you think will look good, do it," poppy said, smiling at her in the mirror.
satin handed chenille a spray bottle. "so," she said. "what's your dress look like?"
"it's purple. it's got lots of sparkles on it! hopefully they don't fall off!"
chenille perked up. "so how's the boyfriend, pops?"
poppy practically joked on her own spit. "boyfriend?"
"you and branch. we were all there in that pot, you know."
"oh," was all poppy could think of to say. "no no no, we're not...you know, dating."
chenille's shoulders fell, but she didn't continue the conversation. she could tell poppy was uncomfortable.
30 minutes passed of chitchatting and singing, and before poppy knew it, her hair was complete.
the had a few strands hanging along side the very edge of her face, the top of her hair was smoother than ever before.
"i love it!" poppy squealed. "i'll see you guys tonight."
sneaking back into her pod, poppy went to go finally put on her dress. but that letter from her doorstep caught her eye.
who would've written this letter. it wasn't handwriting she recognized. creek, maybe? no, creek's long gone. chef? no, she's long gone too.
setting it on her desk, poppy dug into her closet, unable to get that note out of her head.
