DEL PILAR'S POV
Next Day

Today, America will fly to Australia, his brother, from Melbourne. I don't know if I understood his plan correctly, but he said he was escaping. He will just get some help from Australia and more troops will be sent to this country again.

America was with his staff and his patrol torpedo was being prepared. I am standing here,  and Hukbalahap is with me, too. She told me this escape America will do is also for our freedom. America doesn't need to ask permission from the Japanese Empire, of course. If he did, we would be dead because the empire won't allow us.

America stood in front of us and sighed. He has his sunglasses on but I see he was looking to my eyes, and then next to Huk.

I noticed that he looked at her longer than he did to mine. I am trying to analyze what was happening... but I think America's heart was beating fast as he looked at my (ex-girl)friend. Yes, she was beautiful and graceful, and you could see Huk's braveness in her eyes as you stared. Glad she didn't smile, because that would surely make his nose bleed.

"Where's Philip?" he asked to me.

I and Huk looked at each other (because we don't know, duh). "You know what, that should be us to ask you that question..."

"Yeah. You're right, but I don't know."

I heard him curse himself.

He sighed once again and removed his sunglasses from his eyes. "I'm not leaving Philip. I'm not going to let him and all of the Filipinos fight alone. I told Philip that I swear to God I will make his people free and I will never stop sending my soldiers to protect them from the Japanese's threats... I came through and I shall return. Farewell, my friends."

He stood straight and saluted. In respect, we did it back.

America turned back and was about to ride on the torpedo. Then, he stopped.

"Wait a second..." the country interrupted, "What was your name, miss?" he asked my (ex-girl)friend (IN FRONT OF ME LIKE SERIOUSLY, AMERICA'S ASS?).

Hukbalahap looked at me with a 'Can I tell him?' look. I just shrugged (because I don't care anymore, I guess?).

She turned to America again and said her name, "I'm Hukbalahap,"

You wouldn't believe America's reaction. It is like, 'That's your name? Really?'.

"Just call her Huk," I said which caught their attention. "That's her name, yes. She is born to fight against the Japanese forces. Her full name is actually Hukbo--"

"Del, you don't need to say it all. Chill."

And, I stopped at her command. Yes, my lady.

She smiled at me (hehehe. Lucky me, Pancit Canton).

I saw America hold her hand (RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AGAIN) and said, "I adore your beauty. Your eyes are making me weak. Your hair flies with the wind. I was like holding the clouds as I held your hands. It is soft. Can I hold them until I go home?"

I looked away and laughed silently. I don't know why I react like this... but those fucking words were funny.

THIRD PERSON'S POV

The American lieutenant directed the defense of Bataan. Both the Filipino and American soldiers were hopelessly, tired and sick, held the ground fighting with determination until the bitter end. They have tried so many strategies to slow the enemies down, but they failed one by one.

It's been a week passed and the expected help from America didn't arrive. Soldiers thought maybe the country didn't care anymore because if he really did, they won't suffer in a war like this.

Bataan completely fell in April 1942. Commanders surrendered to stop more slaughter that the Japanese could cause.

"Bataan has fallen but the spirit that made it stand did not fall"

More than 70,000 Filipino and American soldiers, including the commanders and generals, were forced to be in the Death March. They will march those 85 miles, from Batangas to Pampanga, for six consecutive days with only one meal of rice for the entire journey.

People are extremely weakened because of hunger and thirst. Most of them died on the way but some tried to continue walking until the end of the line. They envied the Japanese resting and eating under the shadow of the houses and trees, while they walked hungrily under the sun.

After the six days and the Death March ended, survivors died due to starvation and disease, but the others were luckily returned to their families.

Philip? He was fortunate he escaped and never joined the march, but he saw how his people suffered while he was hiding behind the bushes. He has nothing to do. He can't fight or shoot the Japanese secretly because if he did, he would be caught and probably be killed.

A tear just fell from his eyes... because of seeing them helpless.

"I-I'm sorry..."

That's the consequence of shouting at your only hope, Philip.
