My grumpy baby

I never knew my kryptonite would come in the form of a no-nonsense, irritatingly honest, five-foot-two sexy package. In my entire adult life, I had never lost my cool. For me to go to a foreign embassy, hit someone, and not feel bad about it even for a second made me realize how much she meant to me, and it was a little scary to think about my life without her.

Actually, at that point, I would have been happy if she had simply agreed to marry me for my money, but my grumpy, do-gooder future wife stopped talking with me after my fight in the embassy. She started avoiding me at every turn, thinking everything would go back to normal.

And a week later, when I went to the Indian embassy, Bhavishya's boss Mr. Mishra asked me to meet him in his office. I immediately knew something was up. He then told me what happened. Apparently, Bhavishya had gone to him and asked if she could be reassigned to Portugal. Since he had known me for a long time, he wanted to ask me if I knew about her decision before giving her an answer. I was furious when I heard that, he must have seen that in my face so he placatingly said,  "Raul, I know you well, so let me say as a friend that she is a good girl who is also very talented. So, if you are serious about her, we will lose her because you cannot marry her if she remains an Indian diplomat. Either she gives up her citizenship or you become an Indian citizen. So I hope you understand the gravity of the situation; she must give up her career for you. I reprimanded her last week because of you and that Ambassador's foolishness. I knew it wasn't her fault, but I had to blame someone because it was a high-profile party and a matter of our country's credibility. So never do anything like that again and put her on the spot. Think about what I said and make a decision."

"Mr. Mishra, I appreciate you asking before giving her an answer, but please know that I am dead serious about marrying her, and regarding the citizenship issue, I will consult with my lawyer and will inform my decision soon, please don't reassign her if she asks you again, she is not going anywhere," I told him sincerely. With that, I left the embassy and went back to my office.

Though I understood her reasoning behind what she did, I couldn't control my anger when I heard it. It was a miracle I hadn't gone to her office room and dragged her back home and locked her there. That day I left the office early and went home. I then decided it was time for her to realize she couldn't simply run from me.

When she came back in the evening, I was waiting at her house. She came barreling into the house since the door was unlocked, but when she saw it was me sitting on the couch, she visibly relaxed but stared at me angrily and was standing near the door as though I would go away if she stood there. I then made myself more comfortable on the couch to get a rise out of her and checked her out, making her shy and uncomfortable.

It was funny actually watching her getting bothered because of me. I never noticed that aspect of her before when she thought of me as a friend. She was comfortable then, but after knowing my intentions towards her, she looked ready to bolt. But what she didn't know is that I never had a single decent thought when she was near me from the beginning.

Since she was on the edge of uneasiness, I stopped ogling her blatantly and asked, "So baby, are you going to stand there all day or going to tell me about your Portugal escape plan." She avoided looking at me and hesitantly said, " I ...I ....actually its none of your business Raul. You made me a laughing stock at the embassy. Nobody will take me seriously after the stunt you pulled, so I am thinking of moving to Portugal. There's nothing wrong in that ".

I then scrambled from the couch and moved towards her, she instinctively took a step back but couldn't go further because of the door, so when I stood before her, she craned her neck up and looked at me nervously, "My sweet baby, your professionalism astounds me but you and me, don't you think we have unfinished business here."

She immediately got riled up, " What unfinished business? You brute. I didn't ask you to go and beat every single man who looks at me. So what other business is there between us." I then calmly stated," You could accept that you like me instead of avoiding me." She immediately tried to get away from the door, but I got hold of her hips and locked her between me and the door," Baby, don't try to run every time I ask this, instead think and give me one good reason why you wouldn't marry me ?"

She looked me squarely in the eyes and said, " Why should I marry you? You didn't give me any compelling reason so far. Earlier, you said I am not like your past girlfriends, and I was out of your league. Now suddenly you are saying you love me and want to marry me. But nothing has changed in the meantime, and I am the same me. So go figure why I wouldn't jump for joy by your proposal."

She always knew how to test my patience, so gritting my teeth, I pulled her plush against me to make her realize how much I wanted her and said, " Baby, no man gets that hard just by standing near someone he didn't like." She visibly gulped and tried to move away but didn't say anything. So I continued, " I am sorry that I said those things and hurt you. I was angry since I thought you betrayed me. Baby, it's no wonder you were single, not that I am complaining but get one thing straight, I love you, and I want to marry you, only you. Even when I was about to marry that bitch I never loved her. I agreed to marry her only because she said she was pregnant. Stop running away at each and every turn."

She finally opened her mouth and said, " I am not running away. You don't get to choose what is good or bad for me. I am the one responsible for my life. You should have never hit that Ambassador in the embassy. Also, thank you for implying that I was a single loser incapable of making decisions. How you acted doesn't convince me you are in love but only makes me question your intentions." The way she always questioned my love felt very insulting, so without thinking, I responded quickly," Yes, Bhavishya, you should definitely doubt my intentions because I am the idiot who wants to marry you instead of having a quick fuck like that son of a bitch Saito."

The moment those words left me, I knew I screwed up. Bhavishya was already hurting because of the way people gossiped behind her back in the embassy. Instead of being mindful of her fragile state, I took my frustration out on her. When I loosened my hold on her, she moved away, calmly said," Now that you have made your noble intentions clear, you better leave Raul," and went to her bedroom and locked the door.
