PROLOGUE

My name is Mia Harper and I'm 22 years old, I live in New York with my three best friends Laurie, June, and Brittany. I'm originally from a small town in Indiana, which I truly miss along with my family back home; my mother, my father, and my little brother Toby. However, what I'm about to tell you is the saddest day of my life....

You see I was hanging out with my girls doing what we normally would do on a Thursday night, which is not what normal girls do...we were playing our favourite Xbox game Call of duty! Yes I know what you're thinking...what girls play those kind of games???? And of course the answer is YES! But anyways we were having a blast, when the doorbell rang...I totally forgot about the pizza we ordered...

After we ate and played a few more games everyone but me decided to go to bed. I decided to play some more COD online. I was talking mad sh*t to the people that weren't on my team and it was hilarious..."dude I just creamed your a$$...hahaha" and the response from my teammates was " baaahaha you got your a$$ handed to you by a girl" and ," wow that's hot that she can play"...

By the time our game ended, I had two new friends added and was getting tired. It was already 1:00 am..."well time for bed later guys".

I logged off and went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and then went to bed....

Well that was till my phone rang....WHAT THE HELL WHO IS CALLING AT THIS HOUR....!

I looked at my alarm and it read 4:47am...."HELLO!" I screamed at the phone. " hello, may I please speak to Mia Harper?"...

UGGGGHHH "this is she, do you know what time it is?"

"Sorry Miss Harper, we have an emergency it concerns your parents...Miss Harper are you still there?"

"Yes sorry, my parents emergency....... what are you talking about and who are you?"

"Miss Harper, my name is Officer Smith and there has been a terrible accident. Your mother and father were hit by a drunk driver and when the paramedics arrived on the scene your father was already dead, they took you mother to the nearest hospital, but she didn't make it."

"So your saying my parents are d...d...de....dea...dead?"

"Yes ma'am I'm sorry to inform you like this, but our concern is for your brother Toby who is at your parents friends house for the night I believe the Conrad family. But you're the rightful guardian so we will need you to come get him tomorrow....is that possible?"

"Yes Officer I...I...I...I...can do that I'll book my flight now and call Mrs. Conrad in the morning..."

"Ok...I'm sorry for your loss"
