A Protector's Love [Benson and Carisi]

{Thirty-Nine}

Robbie was doing good after surgery but still had to remain in the hospital until he could move around by himself and his body healed from the accident. Olivia and Dominick went in to see him after Serena, Robert, and Lola had.

"Robbie?" Olivia whispered as she moved into her brother's room as Sawyer slept in the sling across her chest. She was trying to keep her voice as low as possible, because not only was Robbie still trying to wake up from all the medicine he had gotten, and because Sawyer was napping.

"Liv? What are you doing here?" Robbie asked as he looked at his baby sister and the baby strapped to her chest.

"We got the call about your accident... I couldn't just pretend like it didn't happen. You are my big brother." Olivia breathed as she fought off tears. She slowly moved to her brother, and he gave her a sleepy smile before reaching up and gently messing with the fluffy hair on the top of his nephew's head.

"Where's Dominick? Did he drive you two?" Robbie asked, and Olivia looked over her shoulder and saw that her husband had left the room.

"Uh, he must have gone back into the waiting room. I just wanted to make sure that you are okay." Olivia spoke.

"I'm fine, Liv. I love you and I will not die before seeing this little guy grow up." Robbie spoke. Olivia nodded slowly, before leaning down and kissing Robbie's forehead.

"I'm going to go find Dominick... but Sawyer and I will be coming back tomorrow. Alright?" Olivia spoke.

"No. Liv, stay home with your baby. I'll be fine. You can come to see me once I'm home. With Momma and Dad..." Robbie trailed off.

"They are going to baby you, Robbie... but just be thankful that you are alive for that to happen." Olivia spoke.

"I'll always be thankful for that, now, take that baby home. Get some sleep." Robbie ordered, before reaching up and caressing his nephew's head one last time before fanning his sister from the room.

Olivia left the room before looking around the hallway before finding her husband staring out one of the windows.

"Dom?" Olivia questioned, as she reached into the sling and adjusted where her son's hand was.

"Yeah?" Dominick asked quietly.

"What's wrong?" Olivia questioned.

"Uh... I'll tell you later. Let's go home."

"Dom-"

"Olivia, later. Please."

Once they got home and Sawyer was fed and changed, Olivia and Dominick settled back into bed. Olivia kept glancing at her husband as he ran his hands over his face.

"Dom?" Olivia asked quietly.

"Babe, car accidents just get me. Not only because of my dad..." Dominick breathed.

"What else, Dom? Because I can see that you are hiding something from me. Something serious." Olivia spoke. Dominick sniffled as he stood and climbed out of bed. He moved to the bathroom and Olivia quickly followed. Olivia opened the bathroom door as soon as Dominick closed it.

"Dominick Tyler Carisi... tell me." Olivia ordered. But she wasn't scaring her husband nor had she scared anyone before.

"Melissa." Dominick breathed.

"Melissa?" Olivia questioned. She reached out to touch him, but he quickly moved away from his wife.

"Don't touch me," Dominick whispered.

"Okay, I won't. I just need you to tell me what is happening." Olivia breathed.

"Melissa is my ex-girlfriend." Dominick sighed.

"What happened to Melissa?" Olivia questioned quietly.

"Melissa and I were in the car on our way home after a party... we were both drunk, but she insisted on driving. She said that it wouldn't be a big deal. So we took a shortcut home, but as we were going through an intersection... a semi came from her side and it smashed the car. Melissa's body was destroyed. Like, crushed completely. I was in a coma for six weeks, just because of the trauma that I had experienced... and when I woke up my mother had to tell me that Melissa was dead." Dominick whimpered. He was so angry and upset, but he didn't know if Olivia was okay with that. He was still grieving the loss of his first love, even if he was married and had a baby with his soulmate.

"Babe... why didn't you tell me sooner?" Olivia breathed.

"Because I've been trying to keep my past in the past. Unfortunately, you found out about my father. About Rebecca and Jonah... and now Melissa. I dragged you into a family that isn't healthy, and I didn't want to bring this up. Especially since I still have the ring I was planning on proposing to Melissa with." Dominick breathed. He turned to look at his wife, and she had a few tears on her cheeks.

"Babe-" Olivia started, but Dominick shook his head.

"I need some air, Liv. I'm going to go for a drive. If you need anything while I'm out, call me."

Dominick wasn't back in the morning, so Olivia asked Madalyn to come over and spend the morning with her and Sawyer. Sawyer was being a charmer and his grandma held him the whole morning while his mother tried to get stuff done. Eventually, Olivia managed to snoop enough in her husband's items and came up with a beautiful diamond ring.

"Madalyn?" Olivia questioned, as she came out with the box in her hand.

"Yes, sweetie?" Madalyn replied.

"This was Melissa's ring, right?" Olivia asked, and Madalyn quickly lifted her eyes from Sawyer and laid them on Olivia's face. She saw the tears on Olivia's cheeks and the pain in her eyes.

"When did Dominick tell you?" Madalyn questioned.

"Last night... after we got home from visiting my brother at the hospital. He didn't even talk to my brother before he ran from the room. I asked him about it, and he said there was more than his father's accident that was making him uncomfortable. Then he told me about Melissa. About the accident." Olivia breathed.

"Olivia, don't worry about this all. It was when they were still in high school and everything is in the past."

"He really loved her, huh?" Olivia question.

"Not as much as you. He loves you and Sawyer more than anyone before."

"I just wish he could have trusted me."

"He does trust you. It's just that when something like this comes up, it's hard to tell your significant other about it." Madalyn spoke gently before reaching her hand out to Olivia. Olivia took it as she sat down beside her mother-in-law.

"I need Dom to come home so we can talk."

'He'll come home soon. When he's ready to talk."
