"Here, a small baby shower gift for you." Mr. Goda placed a small box on the counter. Before y/n had a chance to look over to the elderly man to properly thank him, he was gone. Mr. Goda returned with a bottle and a dark rag. "Hurry up and dig into it. I want to polish the counter."
Y/n nodded and tore the pulled the pastel wrapper off the box. She took a peek inside. A baby monitor. "Oh, I'm sure I was going to need one of these. Thank you."
"You will." Mr. Goda's voice was very matter of fact. Y/n tilted her head and asked him to elaborate, and he pointed towards the stairs leading upstairs. "You can leave them in the room up there while you're on duty. When they cry, you can go up and take care of them."
Y/n was thankful she won't need to stress about working at the bar after the twins are born. Now, she needed to figure out how she would continue her search for The League with a pair of babies on tow.
Part of y/n wanted to ask if Mr. Goda could babysit the twins for one day. However, the mother in y/n didn't want to leave them with him. That annoying part of y/n didn't want the twins to ever leave her sight.
Her throat stung. Y/n was suddenly reminded to ask Mr. Goda a question that has been bugging her since her trip to the slums.
"Have you ever heard about a drug called Onyx?" Y/n's legs slightly swung. Her throat has been faintly burning since she woke up this afternoon, and she didn't know what to make of it.
Mr. Goda paused. He glanced up at y/n from his bar counter. "Yeah, I've heard a bit about it. I don't know much about it, though." He returned to polishing the front counter.
"Do you know if it usually burns?" Her fingers lightly ran over her throat, where the syringe punctured her skin. "Just asking for a friend."
After y/n had gotten back from her adventure out in Ogura's outskirts, she made herself, or rather the beans, something to eat. Y/n found herself extremely exhausted from walking around. She went to bed as soon as she finished eating.
The man who had attempted to inject y/n said it was a hallucinogenic drug. As far as she was concerned, she was entirely coherent throughout the day. If it wasn't for the sore throat and the exhaustion she woke up with, y/n wouldn't have given the drug a second thought.
On the one hand, y/n considered that she could be overthinking. She was feeling pains all over her body. She hadn't felt this sore since Himiko had taught her how to knife fight. Tiredness and aching pains came with pregnancy. On top of that, a sore throat is usually nothing.
On the other hand, y/n had a hard time shaking off a dreaded feeling that something was horribly wrong. Even if y/n didn't get infected with anything, that man still stabbed her in the neck with his disgusting needle.
"Burn?" He tapped the bar as he thought about it. "Not sure. I don't think I know anyone who has ever taken Onyx. It's a new drug. Pretty hard to get your hands on, if I'm not mistaken. If I were you, I'd advise your friend to steer clear of it." The broker in the slums said something similar. He refused to sell it because it was a new drug. Something about being uninformed about the long term side effects.
"Oh, they're never going to touch it again. They were curious, so I figured you might have some information." Mr. Goda's answer didn't make y/n feel any better. She was beginning to doubt whether or not a small bit of the black substance made it into her system. Y/n shook off the feeling.
Mr. Goda stared at me. He hummed as he stroked his beard. "Yessir?" y/n asked.
"You just seem pale. Are you feeling alright? If you're unwell, you can just go home. I'll be fine all by myself." Mr. Goda unintentionally made y/n worry again. Y/n promised that she was feeling okay. The last thing y/n wanted was to be sent home and left alone with her thoughts.
