a/n; ok, I'm terrible I know. I haven't updated in what, a year? But I'm back now and really into the idea of this story again. And I'm giving you a longer chapter as a way of apology! Anyway. I hope you guys still want to read this? If you do, maybe leave a comment for me? I'll try to update more regularly now but as I'm in my GCSE year I may only update on weekends.
Martha's POV
By the time I get downstairs, Jack's already there, as I suspected, leaning against the wall in the living room.
"Martha Jones," he smiles widely, and slides an arm around my shoulders, "the voice of a nightingale."
"Hey," Mickey says, hitting his hand away, "hands off my wife, if you don't mind."
"Oh... Smith-Jones, then. Didn't see that one coming, I've gotta admit. Nice catch, Mickey Mouse. Now, is anyone planning on explaining what the hell's going on here and... more to the point, who this lovely lady is."
He winks and leans towards Ruby, who raises an eyebrow at him.
"Way out of your league, that's for sure," Ruby crosses her arms and shuffles away.
"Ooh, a feisty one, are you, little red?"
"Funny how you should call me that. Ruby Lucas... otherwise known as Red Riding Hood," she smirks and shakes his hand.
"What, is that some kind of a stage name?"
"No."
".. O-kay... as I was saying... why am I here?"
I sigh and slide back into my seat beside Ruby, shaking my head.
"Wish I could tell you. But honestly, we don't know." I shrug and look around, hoping that someone would have an explanation. "Apparently time's gone all... funny again. Things happening that shouldn't be happening, things not happening that should be happening, you know the sort."
"Give me examples," Jack frowns, perching on the arm of a chair.
"Well, I remember the Doctor," Donna pipes up, "apparently that wasn't meant to happen."
"Okay... so that's something that was meant to happen that didn't happen... what's the other?"
"Something to do with Martha, I don't know," the Doctor says with a dismissive gesture.
"Wow, nice to know you still listen." I roll my eyes slightly, leaning back in my chair.
"Of course I listen. It was... something to do with your sister or... something.' The Doctor says, with an almost dismissive gesture.
"Her sister? Martha, what happened? Is Christina okay...?"
I can't help but smile slightly at that. Christina is and always has been the one person Jack won't flirt with. It might have been something to do with me, the fact that she's my younger sister, but he always seems to be protective of her, as I am, and he treats her like she's his own sister.
"She's fine - well, I say fine... she's alive, Jack. That's all you need to worry about." I say with a small sigh, looking up at him.
"Then what's happened to her? Clearly it's something, or the Doc wouldn't have brought it up."
Well, that's true.
"It's not really anything to be worried about. Well, I say that... I'm worried, of course, but I'm her sister, y'know? Surely I'm entitled to be-"
"Martha, you're really kinda freaking me out here. What's going on?" Jack's tone becomes more demanding, more concerned.
"Her boyfriend died earlier. She's not... taking it too well." I explain quietly, watching the look of horror cross his face.
