Hawkpaw woke to find a tall, blue-black cat looming over her.
"Birdriver...?" Hawkpaw gazed up, suprised. "What are you doing here..?"
"Don't you know..? " Birdriver gave a smile.
"No." Hawkpaw replied, with a yawn.
Birdriver looked confused for a second, but the look soon vanished into a smile.
"It's okay... You probably won't care..." Birdriver mewed, in a soft, kind voice.
" What, tell me please? " Hawkpaw meowed, curious. "Tell me."
"It's fine. You were too tired to listen the first time I told you. I shouldn't have bothered you." Birdriver gave a sympathetic look.
Hawkflower gave her a confused look. Birdriver must have told her when she was still asleep. She was quite tired. "Tell me, what?"
" Something's happened to Flamespark.... " Birdriver meowed, happily.
"What's happened to him!? Is he hurt!?" Hawkpaw meowed frantically.
"He's hurt, but not hurt enough for me to care. Anyways, I'd better go. You're too tired. to think straight. Have a lovely day, Hawkpaw... And make sure you don't think about your.... Big.... Brother.... "The world faded. Hawkpaw drifted off to sleep, as Birdriver's voice echoed into her dreams.
Hawkpaw woke up. And loads of thoughts and questions bubbled around in her head. How did Birdriver know that Flamespark was hurt? She was in Leafclan. He was the deputy of Beachclan!
Suddenly it all made sense.
Birdriver must've been using the tunnels to get to Beachclan undetected, and she might have hurt Flamespark!
Hawkpaw pelted off to camp, she felt dizzy and sick, but she kept going. For a small second, she thought she was Birdriver gazing down at her from the cliff.
No. Can't have...
Hawkpaw soon noticed that Cliffclan was in the camp, and blood was everywhere. Flamespark had wounds all over him, and Honeystar, leader of Cliffclan was cornering him at the top of the towering highrock. There was nothing she could do... Honeystar pushed Flamespark of the edge, and he landed with a pained grunt. Hawkpaw got a closer look. His leg was bending the wrong way.
"Somebody help!.."
Hawkpaw screamed, but it couldn't be heard from all of the shouts and cries of the battle.
"Please!"
Nobody heard, so Hawkpaw turned to his attacker, and she was filled with rage. "You Batblind idiot! I hate you.... I hate you!" Hawkpaw's voice faded into tears.
A few seconds later, Hawkpaw looked up again, tears still rolling down her cheeks. "I hate you!!!" She screamed , and leaped onto Honeystar. She scratched her, and scratched her, with all of her strength. Blood filled her eyes, and that was the last thing she could remember from that day...
