"Anthony?"
"Ten more minutes."
"Anthony!"
"What?"
The Italian roused himself from sleep after hearing the fear in the other male's voice.
"Come on,get up!"
"I'm up,Steven,I'm up!"
He sat up,mind whirling as,instead of feeling his mattress beneath him,he could feel the bumpy ground beneath him. Instead of seeing his room, set up,and everything familiar,he saw what could only be described as a mini field. Tall, dry grass grew to his shoulders when he was sitting, creating an easy cover. Three quarters of a mile away were a clump of abandoned buildings, which were in serious need of repair. They looked mostly like hotels or apartment complexes, and there was one building that looked as if it used to be a grocery store. A few, small houses were scattered here and there,a good distance away from where the Italian and the Canadian had waken up at.
Speaking of the Canadian,Anthony turned his head to look at Steven, blinking in confusion. Steven looked just as confused, except fear was practically radiating off of him. Boyfriend instincts kicking in,Anthony instantly was cradling the short male, offering comforting words as he rubbed the other male's back. Steven gave no move to stop the rather motherly Italian, and simply buried his face into Anthony's neck. They stayed like that for a while, just being comforted by each others' company. Anthony pressed a kiss to Steven's forehead before helping him up,so they were both standing.
The first thing Anthony did was shove his hand into his jeans' pocket, aiming to find his cellphone. What he came up with instead was a porcelain looking tile, the pure white surface untainted, lacking any scratches or any indications of harm. Steven, who saw this, reached into his own pocket, retrieving his own blank tile. Bewildered, the two looked at each other for answers, but couldn't grasp one. Anthony raked his fingers through his hair, and was startled when his fingertips grazed across the chill surface of something attached to his ear. Blinking, his fingers traced the outline of a small earpiece that had been hooked on his right ear. His index finger found the on button, and he reluctantly pressed it.
Static was all the rattled over the lines at first, dull white noise. Ze,who had been watching, followed suit, looking a bit unnerved. As he did so,they static slowly cleared into murmuring voices, but none were distinguishable. They sounded frightened, nervous, concerned, horrified. Brow furrowed, the Italian gazed around, taking in their surroundings fully, hoping to catch a glimpse of another human being. Worry pricked at him like needles as he noted the thick fog barrier that surrounded the area, giving the whole place a grim and dreary atmosphere. He instantly looked down at Steven after hearing the startled gasp the Canadian released.
"What is it?"
He asked, panic beginning to set in. Steven held back a terrified whimper, and Anthony followed his gaze to a patch of flattened grass. His blood ran cold as his attention fell on the sleek outline of a pistol, then shifted to the sniper rifle,M16,another pistol,a few grenades, and boxes of ammo for each gun. It looked as though they were prepared for mass murder, which wasn't actually that far from the truth. They looked apprehensively at the weapons, neither daring to pick one up. Steven felt his stomach flip slightly, the simple thought that they had been given these for a reason made him want to retch.
There was a sudden beep that came on over their earpieces, scaring the wits out of the pair. A monotone voice followed, words ringing out clearly,
"THE ROUND HAS BEGUN."
