"No, Mom! YOU CAN'T DO THAT!"
"I'M YOUR MUM, OF COURSE I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT!"
"JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE MY MOTHER, IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN INVADE MY PRIVACY LIKE THAT!"
"YOU NEED TO HAVE A PRIVACY TO BE INVADED FIRST!"
We both froze. She had hit the wrong spot. And she realised that very well because the next second, Big Mommy interrupted our fight.
"You two! Stop it now. Eun-Jung, is this how I have raised you?! Huh?! Who talks to their own daughter like that? There is not ONE DAY of peace in this house because of the ruckus you two create."
"Amma, don't involve yourself in this! You know I'm doing this for her own betterment!"
"HOW WILL CREATING MY ID ON A DATING APP WITHOUT MY OWN PERMISSION BENEFIT ME?!"
"BECAUSE YOU DON'T CREATE IT YOURSELF!"
"IT'S BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO! CAN'T YOU JUST STOP MOM? YOU CLEARLY KNOW I DON'T WANT TO GET MARRIED!"
"ATLEAST DATE SOMEONE YOU UNROMANTIC BRAT!"
"BUT I DON'T WANT—"
"VOICES DOWN RIGHT NOW ELSE I'M KILLING MYSELF!"
Big Mommy had finally got up from her armchair and was now looking at both of us with a calmly intimidating expression.
Her signature style.
"You two stop fighting else I'm hanging myself from this very ceiling today. I will be done once and for ever. If you can't let me live in peace, then I will find it in death." She declared in a loud voice.
I was not convinced though. I didn't like the fact that my own mother was not respecting my decision regarding my own life and was forcing her opinions on me. I was freaking 30 years old now, not a little girl anymore who can only depend on her mother when it comes to decide about something.
I had my own identity and privacy.
"Big Mommy, it is not my fault. Mom always initiates the fights. If she doesn't do that, there will be no chaos in the first place."
"Min Seo-Yeon, I'm doing it only so that you can live happily with the love of your life!"
"There is NO LOVE Mom! How many times do I need to repeat the same thing?! Nothing like love truly exists! It's only the concept of love that we all know and are enchanted about. If love actually existed, I wouldn't be living with a single mother and her own mother right now."
Both of them looked at me wide-eyed. Not only my Mom but also I, her daughter had crossed the limits today.
They were left too speechless and emotionally stabbed to utter anything.
With tears in my eyes, I picked up my purse and dashed out of the apartment building, hurtling down the staircase as guilt and sadness engulfed my soul.
