It was midnight, at least that's what I thought the time was, I was in my cell, wide awake, waiting for Phoenix to show up and break me out. It was a tense moment because I would finally be leaving this place. But that thought also scared me. The men that I eavesdropped said that we were going to provide for an immunity. Immunity for what? And why us, I thought. Then I started thinking about something else. I remembered what Derrick said about how he wanted outside to look like. Maybe, there is something waiting for us outside, something....not good, I thought. Something that is the cause for all of this. Maybe it originated somewhere here. Or, maybe the rain, or space. Well, we will just have to stick around and deal with that after.
"Hey!"
"You asleep?"
"C'mon!"
"We don't have much time!"
My thoughts were interrupted as I looked towards the door to my cell. Through the glass, I saw Phoenix outside. She was signaling me that it was time to go. Suddenly, I heard Derrick's voice talking with Chandler in the back. Guess I was the last one left to go. Phoenix let me out with her speed ability, and we went to the same vents in the lounge that me and Phoenix went to when we eavesdropped the men. Once we were over the place the men were talking before, we popped open the vent door, and we jumped out. Thankfully, nobody was there.
"What a relief!" said Derrick.
"Guys, we should hurry though, just in case they notice that were gone." said Chandler.
"Right!" I said.
"Follow me," said Phoenix."I know my way from here. But before we go, I need to let you know something. The exit door has some kind of field that completely drains our abilities for about two hours. We will need to find a way to get out before the men come and hide so they don't find us. We will be powerless then. So be careful. Now, lets go get our freedom back."
We ran. With all our might, following Phoenix through the twists and turns of the facility. We reached several doors for different purposes. Soon, there was a door to our right after we turned a corner. This was when my curiosity took the better of me. I quickly ran to the window on the door and looked through. It was a lab. They had tables. On those tables, something was being covered by a white sheet. I made out the bulges in the sheet and suddenly realized what it was. Bodies. Lots of them. I suddenly then turned to the corners and that's when I saw something horrible. Some kind of humanoid creature with ripped skin and bones showing in different places was in a glass cage. I couldn't make out any details, but I knew there was something in there that was being hidden from us. Something that could've came from....not here but...outside. I turned to the hallways and caught up with the group. I decided to not think about it anymore and almost forgot about it.
As we made our way down a long hallway, we started to feel kind of hungry. We were all totally not aware of how we were supposed to survive without food or water. Well, at least we could survive for a while without them, but we just had to hope that we would come across resources in the outside. I had a feeling that it would be tough. But, I also had a feeling we would survive.
"Hey, so what do you plan on doing once we leave?" I asked.
"I might just try and enjoy the rest of my life." said Phoenix.
"Well, the first thing I would do is get a double, extra lip smacking, 7 flavor tower, of icecream. And I would get two of them." said Derrick. "It would be so delicious. What about you Gravy?"
"I would get a mountain of delicious gravy and just sit on a couch watching cartoons forever." said Gravy. "What about you Grace?"
"I would try and donate things to help other people and I would be and adventurer, going on different quests throughout the world." said Grace. "What about you Cassie?"
"I would go explore but first, I would totally expose E.C.C.E. I would make them pay for--" I started to say when sirens started to go off.
"Run, run everyone. Quickly! To the exits!" Phoenix yelled.
We ran and ran, knowing that the men would be after us, trying to catch us. Soon, we turned a corner and there at the end was a door. We made it to the door and Phoenix pulled out a keycard that she stole weeks before and tried it on the door.
"It keeps saying error!" screamed Phoenix.
"Keep trying!" I said. Then, I turned around to see the two men we overheard talking, and a group of men with weapons in hand. I headed toward them to stall for a while.
"Hey, hey. What are you doing? We are helping you, gave you a proper home. Just stay with us and you will be given better living standards." said man 1. I stared at them in disbelief. Had they not known that I overheard them?
"No. We want to leave. We don't want to be test subjects! We don't want to be contained here forever!" I yelled.
"Calm. Calm. You all wouldn't last a day out there. It's too dangerous. You are not our test subjects. Your family. We care about you. Always have." said man 2.
"I bet you do! Enough to sell us for money!" I screamed.
"You think we would sell you? Why would we do that? We care more about you then about money. We would do nothing to harm you." said man 2.
"Really? Really? Yeah, you wouldn't harm us...You planned to kill us!" I yelled. " We would never trust you!"
"Why would we kill you? We admire you! You are like family as I said before." said man 1.
"What are our names?!?!" I screamed.
"Um...it's, Lucie, right?" said man 1. " Okay, well maybe we don't fully know your names, but we care about you."
"No, you care about something else in us. Our blood. That's all!" I screamed. The men's expressions changed to murderous intentions as soon as I said that. "E.C.C.E! We know about it. You want to sell us to them for profit, for money. You act as if our lives mean nothing!"
"Whatever you say, we are keeping you. You and your friends are never going through that door.
"HEY!!" Derrick yelled. "It's open!! RUN!!"
I turned to the direction of the door. I ran towards it just as it was closing all four walls started to come together in the door area. I ran and ran and ran. Soon there was a square that wasn't consumed by the walls yet. With all my strength I jumped through the square. I fell to the ground out the other side and Phoenix came and picked me up. I saw the men at the window of the door and the first one started talking. I couldn't hear much but "I will find...". We started running towards a light at the end of the cave structure we were in. Soon we made it to the light and looked out.
"Oh.." I started.
"My.." said Phoenix.
"Great big macaroni and cheese noodles." said Derrick. "I guess that's why they said we couldn't survive out here. It makes perfect sense now."
