daphne woke with a start, an unsettling feeling was brewing within her body. she looked around her cabin, it was devoid of human life besides her. instead it was filled with a wide array of instruments, all of which she could play. in fact, it's doubtful that there was an instrument that she couldn't play.

she was a child of euterpe, the muse of music, after all. children of muses were different than those of the gods. sure they were still demigods, but of you were a child of one muse, suddenly all the other muses cared about you too. so along with those instruments, were diagrams of the night sky, dozens and dozens of playwrights, stacks of poetry, and history books (that were translated into ancient greek, of course).

the cabin itself was quite quaint itself, walls painted a soft beige color, bunk beds lining a section of the walls, all empty of course (the muses didn't have children often). the ceiling was perhaps the most remarkable part of the cabin, it had a shifting mural of the night sky, labeled with constellations, stars, planets, and such. tribute to auntie urania, she presumed.

daphne was close with her aunts and mother, or rather, close in terms of godly parental relations. probably because she, as of right now, was the only child of the muses. which, to the other demigods, might've been strange. but to her, it was just how she'd grown up.

daphne hadn't really grown up with her dad. well, she lived with him for about 5 years, he gave her a new shiny vietnamese name, tiên hường vũ, the day after he found her on his doorstep, but after that they didn't really interact. at the age of five, she left the house, leaving him a note (which was very hard to write due to her dyslexia), telling him goodbye, and not to worry about her because mommy and aunties was going to take care of her.

she hasn't heard from him since, well, nine years now. she turned 14 about five months ago, so she would've started high school this year. but she hasn't gone to a proper school in since the end of kindergarten. she hadn't had her own cabin until the end of the war. which was in august. she's still getting use to not being in the hermes cabin, not constantly being on edge, having her own space, so on so forth.

daphne broke out of her sleep-induced trance, immediately checking her right middle finger. which was where her sword, disguised as a beautiful ring, was kept. her weapon was gifted to her by her mother and aunties when she first got to camp and she's cherished it since.

she ran out of her cabin, just in time to see the chariot hit the water. ouch, she thought, that must've been an experience. she jogged towards the growing crowd near the docks, when she got there she could see annabeth (perhaps one of her only friends), butch (a child of iris that she wasn't quite close to), and three unknown kids.

one was a boy that had a latino complexion with curly brown hair, it seemed like he was fiddling with something in his hands and pockets, another was a girl that had choppy brown hair that had a single braid with a feather meticulously braided into it, she seemed to be native american, and she moved around with a sort of awkward elegance. the last boy was perhaps the most remarkable, he had blond hair, it was cut into an all american type haircut. the most startling part about him were his piercing blue eyes, the last time she saw eyes like that was with thalia grace, daughter of zeus. she swore she'd seen him before, perhaps in a dream?

she was torn from her thoughts when his eyes met hers, she gasped lightly and looked away from him. those eyes were so familiar, but she just couldn't place when and where. it seems that he thought the same because he lurched toward her, right arm held out like he was trying to grab at her. the crowd parted ways for him but she was frozen in her spot in both fear and shock. when he was about three feet away he suddenly stopped, looking straight at her with a strangled expression as if he was hurt.

by now the whole crowd was definitely staring at them, looking between her and the blond boy, trying to figure out what sort of connection they had. daphne as of right now was stumbling backwards, trying to get away from him and figure out what connection they had. she opened her mouth, lips trembling in slight fear, about to ask him who he was before annabeth asked jason to show his arms.

that's when she saw it, a tattoo with twelve lines paired with the letters SPQR and an eagle. eagle, eagle, what god has the symbol of an eagle, she thought feeling panicky. she couldn't remember. no matter how hard she thought, she couldn't remember who it was. it was on the tip of her tongue too.

she tentatively spoke with a trembling voice. "w-who are you?" daphne asked. "why do i f-feel like i k-know you?" she looked up, straight at him (which to be honest hurt her neck very much as he was almost a whole foot taller than her), eyes flashing wildy with fear, curiosity, and perhaps slight anger.

the boy (name currently unknown) chuckled wryly. "that's the problem, i don't know either," he said, "though when i saw you, i felt that i had to get to you, that you'd be the key to whatever the hell is happening. but i'm sorry for scaring you like that miss...?" his voice trailed off with a question, he was asking for her name.

"oh r-right! the name is d-daphne hường vu. or tiên hường vũ if you wanna be fancy and culturally inclusive. daughter of euterpe, the muse of music, at your service." she answered, it was as if her whole mood had shifted, with a mock salute. "and you mister all american? what's your name?" she joked kindly.

mister all american cracked a smile at the last comment. daphne cheered silently. "the name's jason, ma'am. dunno my last name yet." jason said. "and while i'd absolutely love to continue this exchange, i do believe the whole camp is staring at us now."
