10:30 am–Present - Jamaica
Thwap Thwap Thwap
My face burns and jerks to the right. My cheek stings, jaw vibrating, and I taste something metallic in my gagged mouth.
"Wake up, asshole!"
Thwap Thwap Thwap
"Unh, unh, unh." I move my body away from the direction of the slaps and realize I'm on a chair. My arms are tied behind me and ache from the strain.
Where am I? What the fuck is going on? I open my eyes and realize that I'm also blindfolded. The material covering my eyes is black as night. I see nothing. My jaw aches. My heart races in fear. How did I get into this situation? The last thing I remember is flying to Jamaica with my fiancée for a well-deserved vacation and a surprise destination wedding. Where am I now? And Natalie, what's happened to her?
Yesterday–New York.
"What are you doing here, Ron?"
"Nothing. Just pretend you didn't see me."
"That'll be hard to do since you own the company, and everyone knows you."
"Point taken. Do me a favor, Dennis. If Natalie calls, I wasn't here."
"Got it. You should be packing, so again why are you here?"
"I just wanted to make sure we cover everything when I'm out of the country. We have a few things pending, remember?"
"Who are you and what have you done with our laid-back, easy-going leader. The one who said, and I quote 'I don't want to hear from anyone for the next two weeks.' "
"Funny! I'm just nervous, that's all. First vacation, first wedding -"
"-First wedding? Do you have other brides waiting on the horizon I don't know about?"
"You know what I mean, Dennis. Anyway, I'm all set."
I look around my office and I'm filled with the sense of pride and accomplishment that hits whenever I walk into this building. I launched BARM Inc. five years ago in my living room. Hard work and persistence helped grow my company into the multimillion-dollar company that it is today. Dennis and Lynn joined me a year and a half after the company made its first million-dollar revenue. I trust them both to do what's best for the company in my absence.
"Hey, what about the new project you said you're working on? Want to leave it with me for review while you're away?"
"Not this time, buddy. No work, just playing and frolicking on the beaches of Jamaica. When I get back, I will be a happily married man. And then we'll go over the plans."
I hurriedly pack everything I need for my first vacation in five years. Natalie, my fiancée, and I leave for beautiful Jamaica this evening. We plan to relax and come back in two weeks sporting a tan. What my darling Natalie doesn't know is that I plan to surprise her with a destination wedding.
All packed. I shut down my computer, grab my bag, and head out the door.
"Shoot! I almost forgot. Dennis, I've got to show you something."
I pull my prize purchase out of my pants pocket, flip open the box, and show it to Dennis.
"What do you think? Think she'll like it?" I ask, my face lights up like a little kid.
"Dang! Big, beautiful and blinding." He laughs and shades his face.
"Perfect. The three Bs, just what I was aiming for."
