I woke up the next morning and got myself ready for the long day ahead. Checking my schedule, I saw that I had a meeting with each of the princes and princesses to talk about the clothes they needed for the photo shoot in a few weeks.
Every year, there is a competition between the royal children to see who is the most popular and well liked. The photo shoot serves as the start of that competition. This is the part of the year where I am the busiest and get to show my skills and creativity to the public. Though I wouldn't like to admit it, I do feel proud when everyone praises me for my work.
First was Prince Regulus. He's the crown prince, short blond hair, blue eyes, fiery personality, always ready to have a debate. I found him in the courtyard fencing with his brother, Prince Ashwin. He's shy and doesn't like to talk much. The moment he saw me, he hesitated, giving Prince Regulus the chance to knock his sword out of his hand. Prince Ashwin picked up his sword and went to put it away. As he walked past me, he whispered quietly that he'll meet me in the gardens after lunch. I acknowledged his words with a nod.
Prince Regulus sat down next to me. I spread out all my designs on the ground for him to see, asking if there were any preferences for what he wanted. Though we do have computers and such nowadays, I always feel more comfortable using physical drafts instead.
"Hmm. Well, Ro was telling me yesterday that I looked good in warm colors, that I looked like the sun, casting away the darkness all around with nothing more than a smile. I'm thinking of maybe going along that route and using something reminiscent of sunlight. Would that be okay?" Ro is his nickname for his twin cousins Rosemary and Rowan. I'm not sure which one he means here but went along with it anyways.
"I can see where your cousin got it from. Sunlight, huh? That might actually work," I muttered. Ideas started sparking in my mind like crazy.
"I didn't mean like actual sunlight. That'd be impossible!" he exclaimed, speaking the first thing that came to mind. Oh, right. None of them knew yet.
I stood up with a mysterious smile on my face and started gathering my stuff. The prince just sat there, staring at me with a shocked look on his face. "Surely you don't mean-"
"Please, Your Highness. That is an unsightly face to make in public, you know," I interrupted. "I have to take my leave now. Your siblings are waiting for me. I shall see you soon once I gather more information on what they need as well." And with those words, I walked away.
