Rose kind of wanted to go back.
Rose sighed as she and Annie waited for Ruby. Today was the day they were going to rob the store. Rose sat in the driver seat of the car, Annie's leg was going up and down, Rose just sat calmly. This wasn't her first robbery but she hoped it was her last. Annie's leg stopped bouncing as she Ruby come out of the building. Rose could see the nervousness on the two mother's faces. Ruby got into the back seat, Rose turned to her.
"You can still back out," Rose says, out of everyone Ruby looked the most nervous. "No one will blame you. You can still get your cut." Rose says with a small smile at the end.
"No, I'm fine," Ruby said, Rose nodded and turned back to sit correctly in the seat. Taking a look at Annie who just gave her a nod. Rose turned the key and the car started. Driving away from the building and to the store. Annie's leg bounced again and Ruby was fidgeting with her fingers. Rose just placed her attention on the road.
***At the back of the store***
Rose quickly pulled up next to Beth's car. Beth was standing next to her car looking at the three as the pulled up. Stopped quickly, Annie, Ruby, and Rose got out of the car. Beth looked at them with an annoyed expression. You see she was somewhat nervous, not like the others.
"Seriously? Today?" Beth asks the girls.
"Relax, sis. We're only two minutes late." Annie says as she walks to the trunk, Ruby opened it.
"Yeah, I was going as fast as I could," Rose says. Beth sighed as she looked over at Ruby.
"How were Sara's (I'm pretty sure I slept her name wrong in the first chapter, sorry) things?" Beth asked Ruby.
"She killed it," Ruby said with a small smile. Rose sighed hearing the two talk like this was just another day.
"She is so smart. Mine are so dumb." Beth groaned. Annie and Rose went through the things making sure everything were there.
"Stop," Ruby said.
"They can't help it, it's Dean's genetics. We did a family tree, he is almost 90 percent neanderthal." Beth says Rose and Annie close the truck. Holding up ski masks.
"All right, ladies. Ready?" Annie asked. Rose handed Beth her ski mask, Annie handed Ruby hers. Rose looked at the three moms, Rose knew that if she was still where she was a couple of years ago she could've just given them the money.
"Let's beat the morning rush," Ruby says like we were going shopping. The girls put the ski maks on. Rose took out the fake guns from her bag and handed one to each of the girls. Beth walked first, Ruby following, Annie, then Rose. Rose looked at her fake gun, kind of wishing it was real. Rose kind of missed having a real gun. They all took a breath as they walked into the store, holding their guns up.
"Everyone is cool and no one gets hurt, this is a robbery!" Beth yelled. Everyone stood frozen.
"Get down!" Rose yelled with authority. Annie looked over at Rose with a curious face.
"Can we get your manager up here?" Beth asked and shouted. Rose rolled her eyes at the fact Beth said it as a question. As Beth asked that, Boomer, Annie's sleazy bag of a boss came scooting out from where he was hiding. Beth walked over to him, holding the gun to him. "You the boss?" She questioned. "Tell your customers to stay calm and it'll be over real soon," Beth stated. Boomer stood up with shaky legs. Rose chuckled at his sacredness, she found herself missing her old life.
"Everyone stay calm, okay?" Boomer said as a statement but it turned into a question.
"Now take my friend here to the cash vault," Beth said with a demanding voice. Annie stepped forward and gestured with her gun for Boomer to keep moving. As the two disappeared, Ruby, Beth, and Rose watched everyone. Rose had a smile under the ski mask. Old memories running through her head. Sighing as she glanced overseeing some reach down to their shoe. Walking over to the person, the person not paying attention, the pulled out a phone that was kept on their ankle. Rose stood over the person as they pulled out the phone, Rose moved and stepped on the phone breaking it. The man looked up at her with fear in his eyes. Rose grinned as she walked away. Beth walked around seeing a scared little girl.
"Hi there. How old are you?" Beth asked the mother looked at her scared. "Let me guess, six" Beth smiled, though you couldn't see it. "Do you like Doc Mcstuffins?" Beth asked. Ruby and Rose looked at her confused. Rose rolled her eyes. Ruby walked over.
"We used to watch in the big house," Ruby said. Waiting a couple more minutes. Rose looked over through the glass seeing the chubby security guard.
"Shit," Rose said, the two mothers looked over. "Go!" Rose yelled. The three of them ran to see Annie coming out with bags of cash. "Let's go! Out the back!" Rose yelled as they ran. Annie was falling a little behind. Rose took some of the bags from her and ran. Rose has carried heavier so this was nothing. Tossing Annie her keys as they each ran into cars. Rose and Beth into Beth's car and Ruby and Annie into Annie's car. They sped off, Beth took off her ski mask while Rose kept her's on, trying to hide the grin that was held underneath the mask. Sighing as she sunk in the passenger seat.
***At Beth's house***
Annie was at the dining table counting the money. Beth sat on her couch looking off into space. Rose had a glass of wine in her hand, Ruby walked over to Rose.
"Is she going to be okay?" She asked referring to Beth.
"Get her some water," Rose suggested. Ruby nodded and walked away to the kitchen. All was silent in the house, everyone was trying to put their head about what just happened, though Rose ran it through her head for a different reason. Ruby walked over to Beth with a cup of water. Beth just sat there looking off into space. Rose sighed as she walked over there with Ruby.
"Are you having a stroke? What's your name, what year is it?" Ruby asked her.
"Did you see that little girl?" Beth asked still looking at the same place she has been looking every since they got here. Rose went over sitting next to Beth.
"Who's Secretary of State?" Ruby asked.
"You mean, 'Who is the Secretary of State'." Rose corrected. Rose put her arm on Beth's back. "Just try to look on the bright side, you can help your family," Rose said trying to stay positive. Robbing a store isn't something you do every day, especially if you're a housewife.
"How much did you get?" Ruby asked Rose looked over to Annie as well. "Please tell me we got the thirty." Ruby pleaded. Rose knew they did, though by the looks of it they may have gotten more.
"We got it," Annie said. Rose looked over at Beth, who finally had her eyes closed.
"Thank you, lord," Ruby says doing a small prayer gesture.
"We got more than the thirty grand," Annie spoke. Beth and Rose stood up from the couch. Everyone looked at Annie.
"How much more?" Beth asked. Annie sighed as she started to pick up bag after bag. The table started to be covered in money. Beth and Ruby looked at it with shooked at worried faces. Rose looked at the money with a smile on her face, though she also knew what it meant. Rose finished the last of her wine. Beth and Ruby walked over to the table.
"What in the hell," Ruby said looking at the table.
"How is that even possible?" Beth asked. Rose went to the kitchen placing the wine glass down. Her old self was starting to show. Rose kind of wanted to go back. Rose needed to remember why she left, though she was asked to come back. Maybe, just maybe. Rose shook the idea out of her head and walked back to the others. "But you said it'd only be thirty!" Beth whisper yelled at Annie.
"I said 'thirty give or take' I guess it was give," Annie said with a small smile.
"Why would a grocery store even have that much money on hand?" Beth questioned.
"Something's shady here. I told you this was a terrible idea." Ruby said.
"I told you, you didn't have to do it," Rose spoke. Ruby looked at Rose with soft eyes. "I told you still would've gotten the cut," Rose says looking at Ruby giving her a small smile.
"You're missing the point! We just won over a million dollars." Annie spoke with some excitement in her voice.
"We didn't win anything," Ruby said. Beth and Rose looked at the money. Beth figuring out what to do about it, Rose trying not to call Mark and accept his offer.
