Poe is awake.
Your surroundings melted into a blur. You were running so fast, you felt as if your feet were lifting off the ground, like you were a bird that was preparing to take flight. You didn't look back, or to your left, or to your right. Just ahead.
Your heart was beating rapidly and you could feel the adrenaline rushing through your veins as your legs began to ache from how fast you were running.
The base came into view. You ran into it, pushing past people and not even saying sorry. You weren't worrying about that right now.
You looked around, your eyes desperately searching for the man you had waited so long to see awake.
When you found him, your heart dropped.
There he was, standing there and talking to Leia. His dark brown hair that bunched up on his head in a mess of curls. His tan face and the way it wrinkled whenever he would smile or laugh. His chocolate eyes, open and live.
Tears immediately developed in your eyes. A month of waiting had felt like a thousand years. A month of pain, depression, sadness. And now he was here.
Poe's eyes met yours as he spoke with Leia. As soon as he saw you, he gasped. The corners of his lips turned upwards. That smirk. You had missed it so damn much.
You laughed and wiped the tears from your eyes. The two of you ran to each other, and without hesitation, you jumped into his arms. You threw your arms around his neck, hugging him tightly.
He wrapped his arms around your waist and lifted you off the ground.
You wept as you caressed his face and ran your hands through his hair. As you touched him, the moment was so surreal you felt like it was a dream, like he might disappear at any moment.
"Whoa, hotshot. Don't drown me here," he teased.
"You're---I can't believe---you're okay," you sobbed, you leaned your forehead against his and smiled as you felt his hot breath against yours. "You're okay."
Poe smirked. "Told ya I'd keep my promise, hotshot."
You grabbed him by the collar and pulled him in, crashing your lips against his. As you kissed him, he pulled your body against his. You felt hot tears streaming down your cheeks as you kissed him, and you realized he was crying too.
"I missed you so much, Poe," you whispered to him. "I felt like . . . oh lord, I thought I'd never see you again. I was so afraid you---"
Poe placed a finger upon your mouth to interrupt you. "Don't finish the sentence. I'm here now, just like I said I'd be."
You tried to form words, but you couldn't.
Poe smiled at your lack of speech. "Gundark got your tongue?"
You smiled back. "You run your mouth more than you do your X-Wing."
Poe looked deep into your eyes, admiring you as if you were a diamond. Oh, the way he looked at you. It sent chills down your spine.
You couldn't believe he was here with you, right now. It was as if a vacuum had sucked all the negative emotions out of you when you had made eye contact with him.
Whenever you were with Poe, you didn't know sadness. He made you feel so vibrant, so alive. So loved. You realized what was missing. What had been shown but never spoken.
"I love you," you whispered to him, your heart fluttering.
Poe shrugged, smirking. "I figured."
