One minute we were having a great date and the next we were rushing to the hospital. I still couldn't grasp the fact that mom was in the hospital. She was fine when I had left, what happened? We got to the hospital sooner then what I thought was even possible.

I wrung my hands together and nervously looked around as we walked into the emergency room. It was practically empty except for a small boy in the corner chair. I rushed over and kneel before him, taking him into my arms. I've always seen Ivan so, grown up. He was a teenager, but right now as he cried and sobbed into my shoulder, he was my baby brother. Weak, vulnerable and scared, very scared. I pulled away, my heart tightening in my chest as I took in his puffy red eyes and terrified face.

"What's going on bro? What happened?" I asked him, as my heart began to beat even louder in anticipation. I stood up and sat on the chair next to him as Ian stood in front of both of us. Ivan looked up and nodded at Ian before starting.

"After you left, " *deep breath*, "mom said she didn't feel like cooking. So she decided to go get take out. She asked me to go with her, but " he stopped again and began to shake his head, "But I didn't want to stop playing COD. I should've gone with her though. I could've warned her or, seen it before her and she could've avoided it. She wouldn't be here right now!" he shouted the last part, before burying his face in his hands. His shoulders beginning to shake.

I sighed as I moved closer to him. I put my arm around his shoulder and pulled him towards me. I opened my mouth to deny everything he'd said, but he continued on.

"She got hit by a drunk driver. The driver hit her right on her side. He was going way over the speed limit. Police came to the house, they told us about mom. We rushed over here. Dad's up in the waiting room. She's in surgery right now. It was bad Nali, she's really beat up." he looked over at me with glassy eyes, but seeming a bit calmer.

My mind was all over the place as I looked away from my little brothers face. I was starting to feel sick and I wanted so badly to cry, I refused to though. I have to stay strong. My mom would be okay. I gripped my hands together as I looked up at Ian, who seemed to reassure my thoughts. She'd be okay. I stood up and grabbed Ivan's arm, pulling him to stand. He stumbled and quickly righted himself, looking over at me confused. I put my hands on his shoulder and looked into his eyes that reminded me so much of moms.

"Mom is SO stubborn. We all know that." I said with a small smile on my face. "She's a fighter, we all are. She's going to be okay and we're going to be here for her. Alright?" I said sternly, trying to convince him AND myself. He gave me a serious look, followed by a nod and side stepped me.

"Come on, let's go up to the waiting room" he said before walking off down a hall. I began to fallow him when a warm hand clamped down onto my shoulder and spun me around. Before I could react, Ian wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me, picking me off floor, then quickly putting me down again. I sent him a grateful smile before walking after my brother, Ian right beside me.

I walked into the waiting room feeling stronger then I initially felt. Ian's random hug had given me the necessary strength to keep myself together. I was the big sister and I had to stay strong for Ivan, for dad. Instantly my eyes found dad who was hunched over in a chair, head resting in his hands. I shuffled over quickly, dodging nurses and doctors rushing by.
