Loving Memories

I dream a lot lately, and you figure in a place so horrible like the cruise I'd have nightmares every night. I haven't had as many as you'd think. I dream of what life could be like without the cruise. I'm happy when I'm asleep. Sometimes I'm running around barefoot, my toes wiggling in the grass. Others I'm holding a newborn baby girl not worrying about whether or not she was drugged with hormones to contrast her brain in inhuman ways.

My favorite dream of all is one that happens often. I'm wearing an oversized jersey, half my face is painted, and I'm screaming at the top of my lungs with kids my age. In front of me is an open field and a team working to make a field goal. I always wake up before seeing if they make it or not. I honestly don't care if they did. The support and cheers was all I needed to have me sold on it.

"I can tell you more..." Trix said wrapping the blanket around our shoulders.

"Tell me about homecoming." I said. He was strangely an expert on the phenomenon of high school.

"There isn't much to tell I've never been" He said.

"Nobody has been goofy, Don't forget it isn't real" There was a sliver of me that hoped that once upon a time it was real.

"It may be a bedtime story now but that doesn't mean it was never real" I laughed. He was so naive sometimes.

"Are you going to tell me more?" I shoved him.

Trix swept his hair out of his eyes and looked down on me. "The species known as the class clown...was another type of high schooler. They brought the light and laughter with them whenever they came into class."

At this angle his eyes were hit by the lighting perfectly. His eyes were golden brown. I wish I had eyes that changed with the light. My eyes drifted down his face. To his lips.

I cleared my throat quickly and brought myself to my feet. I can't do this. I have to keep my priorities straight.

"I saw that!! You were thinking about kissing me. I knew it. You are so into me" Trix grinned and did a little happy dance around the room.

"You don't know what you saw" I scoffed.

The familiar sound of the PA meets my ears. It's way too early for this Krunch.

"Potentials. How are we today? Guess what I don't care. So don't bother answering. Today's challenge is starting now" A piece of cloth was tied around my eyes. I tried to lift my hands to tear it away but someone else was holding them down to my sides.

"Trix. Trix? Trix!" I was getting anxious.

"I'm right here sunshine. I can't see you but I can hear you" He said from somewhere nearby.

"I- I don't want to say goodbye yet" I called back twisting my body trying to face the boy I couldn't see.

"You aren't going to have to. We have made it this far. We aren't going to stop now."

"Shut up. Teenagers and their hormones. I can't ever catch a break" The man shoved me forward and I knew who he was because I couldn't forget a voice like that. That was the lesser officer who picked me up from my house.
